Pitt has tried to stay away from Penn State's kids since the sanctions. As far as you guys are concerned, Pitt is in a no win situation. If Pitt would have actively pursued Penn State players and recruits after the NCAA came down on PSU, you would have cried foul. But since they stayed away, you think they are stupid. No win situation. It is what it is. Like I said, if Pitt is approached by a PSU player, I'm sure they will talk. Otherwise, Pitt has decided not seek out their players, unlike PSU Big Ten conference foe Illinois, who set up headquarters at a hotel in State College in an attempt to pursuade PSU players to join them in Champagne.

And speaking of Illinois, today was Penn State's Media day. During an interview, PSU senior cornerback Stephon Morris called Ryan Nowicki a coward for transferring to Illinois, another Big Ten school. Nowicki, a OL from Arizona, NEVER played a down for the Nitany Lions. Morris wished the other transferrees good luck, but not Nowicki. Morris said it was a "coward move" to transfer within the same conference.

Actually, its not Pitt that is in a no-win situation, it is Penn State. PSU's Big Ten schedule is a no-win. The Lions will be lucky to win two big ten games this year. (But, of course they will still probably get 3 or 4 wins against the cupcakes.)

It is really sad, though, that arrogance still resonates from the PSU faithful. Collectively, the PSU fans should just be satisfied that they even get to play football the next four years. PSU was closer to the death penalty than they will ever again be to national prominence. Apparently the faithful are still guided by misplaced priorities. Pitt may never be a top 10 team again, but at least we aren't in this predicament.

I'm going to try to say this in the nicest terms possible. Nowicki was not even on the 4-deep at any OL position. Stephon Morris is apparently the only kid who shed a tear when he left, I am told.

All Pitt's issues disappear if they win. I know that sounds very basic, but it is true. Recruiting will go up, attendance, funding, everything. Just win your dang games. Or, at least start winning the ones you are supposed to win.

Crimson, I'm anxious to hear what you have to say about the secondary. They have a chance to be the strongest part of the team, right up there with the running game. I think the defense has a chance to be real good this coming year. If they can stay healthy they could have the best defense in the Big East. If they hold up and the running game is as good as advertised, they should be towards the top of the conference. With Pitt's history though, I'm sure we'll find a way to lose to Cinci in that early Thursday night game, and one or two more conference games.

Secondary is a strong unit. Especially Safety. I'll be putting that one up tonight.
