NBC went down to Ridge by double digits this afternoon. Blake Over did not play because he is on an official visit to Eastern Michigan this weekend for football.

Bringing the starters back in was nothing more than an attempt at intimidation and to embarrass or demean and belittle others who have nothing in ones hand to deserve. This kind of stunt is happening way to much both girls and boys sports, and there is absolutely nothing satisfying about it, "even though its Bellwood". I think coaches who are called on the carpet in such occasions should have to answer to questions of motive and be held responsible as such. Excuses such as running a 4 corner "o" to run out the clock or to keep a starter of the other team from scoring their 1000th point is a lame attempt of a normal and thoughtful response to being accused of being a total friggin idiot.
Would you feel better if after the game in his post game interview he said " Yep..I hate that team. I wanted to score as many as we could. If I had it to do again I'd score even more". ?

Nobody asked me but:
Regarding the Bellwood / JV boys game
1. Bellwood outscored JV in both the 3rd and 4th quarter. Lets not act like anders was putting starters back in to run uo the score
2. I think the team thats losing has an impact and responsibilty in these lopsided games too. In the 2nd half when JV pulled the starters, Bellwood continued to play its starters and full court press the JV 2nd team. Bellwood was clearly trying to get back in the game quickly. Bellwood presses and shows JV second team cannot handle it as they turn it over repeatedly.
3. Thats fine but the losing team cannot have it both ways in small school sports. It is very commom for a varsity team to blowout another varsity team, but JV junior varsity or 2nd team isnt as good as bellwood varsity.
4. If Bellwood wanted JV to "call off the dogs" so to speak, in my opinion Bellwood is responsible to do the same. It does not make sense that Bellwood expects JV to take starters out but Bellwood gets to press JV 2nd team. Thats rather hypocritical and I can see why JV coach would put starters into run thr clock out.
Thoughts?

Unwritten rule. Losing team subs first when they've had enough! There is a point of the game when the winning team will sub even if the losing team does not ( prevent injuries, get other players in the game). If losing team does not sub, winning team can leave starters in the entire game without getting the "running up the score" label. I did not see this game, or know the story between the two teams, but if Bellwood did not pull their starters, JV shouldn't have. When they did, and Bellwood kept their starters in, JV can bring their starters back ... no foul. If you coach(ed) varsity, you know this. If you have never coached - now you know. I am sure every coach has been on both side of this argument and they will tell you this is the unwritten rule!
