Yeah I've always been a fan of coaches having no relation to players. That's always a messy situation.I'm interested to see how Johnstown boys basketball operates this year. I wasn't aware any parents were helping with football

Wilson12, your ignorance is really starting to become annoying. First off, coaches Gardill and Reaman are both currently on the staff at McCort. Gardill is on the sidelines calling the defense and Reaman is up in the press box. Have you even seen a game this year?!? Secondly, it wouldn't make a difference if Salem, Davitch, or Lombardi was coaching this years McCort team. If you don't have the players, you're not going to win in the LHAC. What part of "McCort is starting 4 freshmen both ways" do you not understand??? Not to mention they are starting a sophomore QB with a totally new offensive system. Finally, how many games do you think McCort should have won this year so far? If you're thinking more then two, you either haven't looked at the roster or you're delusional. The Tribune Democrat predicted McCort to only win one game this year. So far, they've won two, with three to go. That's called better then expected where I come from.

I've held the belief for years that its the large number of volunteer assistant coaches is why (or one of the main reasons) there are so few new/young officials. Back in the dark ages when I played there were very few if any volunteer coaches, almost all coaches and there were more subs on the sidelines than coaches and/or cheerleaders..................boy I must BE OLD

I'd still like to know if any of those 4 freshmen starters at BM have received any of those LIFT scholarships?

Any particular reason why you want to know that? I'm just curious as to why you are curious.

Since BM gives out 20 full scholarships every year to kids who have finished 8 years of schooling, just wondering what the CRITERIA was for those 20 kids to be selected. Might be nice for BM if several top notch 8th graders (who played football the year before at other schools) to be given a free ride for 4 years. And of course, no coincidence that a few of them might just play football or other sports for the Crushers. Picking up 2,3,4 "strangers" who are good athletes would pay dividends as the years go by. You get the community to pay BM $100,000/year, and BM also bolsters their sports program at the same time. Best of both worlds.

OK, It just seems a bit intrusive that one would be interested in knowing which kids receive financial aid. It's almost like standing at the lunch line and checking which kids get assisted meals, or checking the garbage for pay stubs of working citizens just for the sake of knowing.

Public School is free. Private school isn't. Some kids have parents that can pay the full tuition, some don't. It's pretty cut and dry. How does it change anything at all knowing which families need some help and which ones don't?

The back and forth seems to infer that the lift scholarships may be given out not based solely on financial need but might be directed to those students who are athletically gifted more so than financially needy. I don't know enough about them to know how they are given out, so make no judgement on it, but that seems to be why the question is being asked.
