So now we are lumping Franklin in with Curley, Spanier, Schultz, and Paterno? Wow, don't pull a hamstring making that leap Titan. I mean, we get it, you can't stand PSU and that's understood. However, that is a stretch even for you. When you make a valid point (which you often do) you hurt it's credibility with this kind of nonsense. Comparing anything involved with the Sandusky horror show to Franklin admitting he lied to his team about seeing a video in order to maximize the impact of his message (which no one has reason to believe wasn't his motivation as nothing else makes sense) is just ridiculous. If his reasoning for doing it was to convey to his team just how serious the situation was then I don't have an issue with it. I'd feel the same way if it was Paul Chryst, Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher or whoever the coach or program might be. Of course, I'm not blinded by some overwelming hate for Pitt or any other university really, so maybe I'm the one with the skewed judgment.

For those that don't know, Ryan Keiser a 5th year senior captain that came to Penn State as a walk-on is out for the year (and his career) due to a rib injury. It took a scary turn when he spent time in surgery and the ICU due to an life threatening infection due to the fractured rib puncturing his bowel. He seems to be doing better but scary news...

Please take a look at my post. I was talking about LYING. What Franklin did was LIE to his team, and it may be determined through the judicial process that he covered up information regarding a crime that his players committed. Franklin talked about only hiring assistant coaches whose wives pass the eyeball test, and he admitted to having attractive coeds escort recruits to show them a good time. Today he said in the paper that he had a man crush in Mike Hull. Not only is Franklin a liar and sleazy, but he's incredibly stupid for saying those things to media.
Paterno, Spanier, Shultz, and Curley also LIED and covered up the Scandal. Read the e-mails between Spanier, Shultz, and Curley, the handwritten notes authored by Shultz and JVP, and PATERNO'S own words.
Franklin lied. Paterno, Spanier, Shultz, and Curley lied too acting like they didn't know what was going on.
In hindsight, I should've done more...one of my life's great sorrows

Titan you'll never hear me defend the people whose only goal seems to be restoring JVP's wins. I don't get that at all. As I've stated before the games were played and PSU won them and an accounting procedure by the NCAA will not change that to the young men involved. I've also said before the best thing PSU can do in my eyes is to move on the best they can, correct procedures that should have been followed in the first place, graduate their players, and build the best program they can. I personally am sick of the Paternos putting out a statement every time the wind changes direction in Centre County and the people who obsess over 409 do more harm than good in many ways. Whatever stock you put in to the Freeh report the bottom line is Sandusky was a monster who should have been stopped. I'll never ever defend how he was handled by the 4 mentioned above, the Second Mile, or anyone else who could possibly have prevented what happened.
As for Franklin and lying, well let's just say that I'm pretty sure that every major college coach (or anyone of us for that matter) has told a lie. If you believe that Curley, Spanier, Schultz, and Paterno lied then technically yes they are all liars (as is every other coach in the country). However, I wouldn't equate the two acts because if you believe those 4 lied about Sandusky then that to me is in a different universe than what Franklin did. I'll be very curious as to what comes out at trial but I can't see anything that will be said that will diminish the damage already done to far too many people. You say it may be determined through the judicial process that JF covered up information regarding a crime but conveniently ignore the fact that the prosecutor in the case said he did what he was supposed to do and has been an asset to the prosecution. If it is proven otherwise then I say we form our opinions at that time. In the meantime, I'll take the word of the prosecutor and avoid the speculation.
The "man crush" comment on Mike Hull is completely innocent and a phrase used all the time in society. Making an issue of that is laughable, although I'll admit it was a slightly tone deaf comment by JF. Some of the other stuff he did while in the SEC, while I wouldn't personally endorse them, is not breaking any rules and are things that were put in place at other schools in that conference. I don't think that JF (or any other coach) is perfect but I try to look at things objectively. I have a feeling that if PSU hired the Pope you were going to have an issue with something he said or did. If you are in the public spotlight long enough you are going to do or say something that your critics don't like. As long as he follows the rules, graduates his players, and hopefully builds PSU back up to a program with national relevance that's all any PSU fan can ask. One thing for certain is that he is a relentless recruiter and the early returns say he is going to be very successful in doing so which will do nothing but help PSU potentially regain it's standing in the Big 10/national equation. You don't like JF or PSU and that's okay, but continuing to bash and act as if JF or the university don't have any redeeming qualities at all, after a while just comes off as nothing more than irrational hatred to me.
I've said before I hold no such hatred for Pitt or any other school. When they play at Heinz in 2 years I'll be at the game and will proudly wear my PSU colors and root for them sitting next to my sister and brother-in-law (Pitt grads) who will be rooting for the Panthers. After the game is over I really won't feel any differently regardless of the outcome (especially since an Altoona kid is going to be on the Pitt roster and I'd love to see the local player have a great career). That's as far as it goes with me.
