District 5/6 site changes

Some of these grass fields, like Bellwood aren’t bad even in the rain. Maybe others can’t afford the rent of other facilities. Maybe the style of play is an advantage in the muck. Maybe some of these schools have waited awhile for a home playoff game. They don’t want to give it up.

Has the rain hit those areas like it has here?  Just feel like in the Greater Johnstown area it's been a very wet summer that's extended into fall. Has it been the same in Penns Valley, Bellwood ect.?

The proceeds from Ligonier Valley’s concession stand goes to the band. I assume that it is staffed by band parents. Moving this playoff game doesn’t affect football. The forfeit by Saltsburg did. Gate receipts go into the athletic fund, which helps support the football program. The proceeds from ticket sales are significant, considering the large crowds that have been present at Weller Field. Ligonier Valley doesn’t get the proceeds from a playoff game. The money coming to them for hosting a playoff game will simply be transferred to Greensburg Salem School District. Who was really hurt in all of this was the LV band. They have been limited to three home games to make money.

So Ligonier doesn't get much out of playing in the Appalachian Bowl? Being that it is a neutral site game, they don't necessarily get a fifth home game like most teams do with a ten game schedule. The school misses a gate from an additional home game, and the team isn't really challenged anyway.

In a ten team league you get four or five home games.  It was Ligonier’s year to get four.  The WestPAC hosted this year’s crossover games.  Five Heritage Conference teams had just four home games as a result.  Five West PAC teams had six home games.

If the Heritage wasn't tied to playing this crossover game with the WestPAC, they'd simply schedule a 5 and 5 type schedule most likely. If it was the Heritage's year to host, and Ligoner went 9-0, they would've played Shade at Penns Manor's stadium, not Ligonier. 


The Appalachian Bowl itself isn't a home game, it is a neutral site game played at either Windber or Penns Manor.

I guess my point is, I don’t think they care whether they get a fifth home game or not. But if they only get four home games and the only non-conference game is a blowout away from home, they aren’t getting much out of it.

Ligonier Valley really doesn’t benefit from playing in the Appalachian Bowl. However, they are a member of the Heritage and will do what the conference wants them to do.

True, but the years LV would host the Appalachian Bowl are also the years LV have five conference home games scheduled.
