...Thanks to Richardson's performance in the Wisconsin game, Mills separated his shoulder, and Robinson was taken away in a body bag...All the players did in the dorm was take a little target practice into the drywall in the dorm. No big deal, nobody was hurt, right???

Once again I will claim to be the biggest Penn State fan on this board. Even already in this thread, I have said that paterno has done a bad job of handing out punishments. Once again, my argument is that this situation cannot be weighted down with past things Paterno has passed on. A kid from USC just got booted for rape, a kid from Arizona State just got kicked off the team I believe for something or another, and I think a dude from Colorado State did as well. Rape and murder are offenses worth getting the axe. They were idiots, and they shot a bow. No one got hit. That doesn't make it right, it makes it less serious. Killing someone and not killing someone are two very different things. The kids deserve a few game suspension, academic punishments, and possibly thrown out of spring practices. Should their entire futures hinge on one stupid thing? I basically believe that a scholarship athlete thropwn off a team deserves equal removal from the institution. Scott Paxson is good enough to get drafted. Should his chances of the NFL be hampered because of this? Come on now. More serious things have happened. You cannot punish someone this severely based on what COULD have happened. It didn't happen. It was retarded, and deserves punishment, but this is a bit extreme. They are clearly being punished for all the crap paterno failed to address in the past. Is that Paxson's fault? No it isn't. It's Paterno's fault. He is the problem. It's like I said, a former player has even said that it gets worse every year, and Paterno has no connection anymore with the players. And how many times have I advocated his removal? A dozen at least. The Penn State issues start at the top, and that's on the field and off. Those kids coming in are 9 out of 10 times very immature. They need to be shown maturity. That concept has left Happy Valley, where it was once a key philosophy. Get him out.

I personally feel that Paterno has done a great deal of good things for college football, and especially at Penn State. But time catches up, obviously. It's time to go.

I think his Grand Experiment, if that was being a great coach who taught lessons of life, were achieved and were upheld for a very long time. That's not the case anymore. Look at Ditka in New Orleans. He even says that when he came back after that coaching hiatus, the game had completely changed, and players were no where near the same as they once were. They were immature, rebellious, and did not respond to the way Ditka taught OR punished. That's the way things go. It sucks, but it's true. Paterno is an old guard coach who needs to retire.

last summer, a student discharged a 9mm handgun on campus of my school with plenty of people around. i guess this incident means that the academic advisors at my school are not doing their job. i guess this incident means that all the students which come to this school are idiots.

i do not see how this translates into the kind of coach joepa is or the type of players he has. i think this translates just as it reads. 4 lineman acted like jackasses. their actions should reflect on them, not the rest of the team or the coaching staff or the university. they are now gonna face the punishment. i'll let joe make the call about what to do since he knows more about the situation and the players involved than me and even the all-knowing WT.

yet, i guess im just rationalizing here. instead, i should sensationalize this story into whatever makes psu look the worst.

one more thing going back in the topic a bit, i wonder what factored more into yuri demetrius getting kicked off the team, him being charged w/ a crime or the fact that he was a terrible DI basketball player.

You can always bench a terrible player......When this kid discharged his handgun on campus, did anyone complain to the authorities? Did anyone other than students witness this and report it? If not, what are the advisors to do?

FYI--Yuri wasn't a terrible D1 basketball player, he as starting for a nationally ranked major D1 team at the time he was dismissed. He was dismissed because he was ACCUSED of a crime. Even though he was never convicted (all charges were dropped), he was not permitted to rejoin the team because he needed to get his life in order.

Funny how Tyler Reed and Richardson have been arrested AND CHARGED MULTIPLE times, yet they're still playing. Maybe THEY ought to get their lives in order...or at least go bow hunting in October.
