There team era is around 5.00 a game that is unacceptable for a team that is pretty much supposed to be a collection of all stars, i think Brown,Mussina, and Johnson are near the end of their playing careers as they arent what they used to be especially Brown and Mussina.

The Yankees spent 205 million dollars for their team of all stars, and the Red Sox spent 120 million on theirs. The Pirates entire payroll is only about 39 million or so. Big difference, in dollars and in wins. And with the collection of all stars the Yanks have, anything less than 95 wins and an appearance in the ALCS is unacceptable, and losing the World Series is almost as bad.

I remember a few years ago how George was saying they needed to make some major changes because they lost the World Series to the Florida Marlins. I couldn't help thinking how almost any other team would be ecstatic just to be in the World Series. What about the Pirates or the Orioles? When was the last time one of them played in, let alone, won, a World Series? One heck of a long time. And so long as baseball doesn't have a salary cap, it doesn't matter how good the Pirates minor league system is, it will be a long time from now before they make another apprearance. Once a player becomes good, teams like the Pirates can't afford to pay for them.
