Lock 'em up - throw away the key
Re: Lock 'em up - throw away the key
Saying that child molesters do not cause irrpairable harm to children, is like saying that HUMILIATION is enough of a punishment for them!!
We were talking about adults that molest children. The only suitable punishment for that crime is a needle. At a minimum, life in prison.
I like your thinking. Let me see if I can find that satire essay I wrote--here it is. Be careful, I haven't really bothered editing it, as my english class is a joke. I got a 97% on it.
DCPassarelli wrote: Prisons are overcrowded, expensive, and dangerous. Here shall be presented an alternative to the current system, which obviously does not work.
The island of Guam shall hereby be built into a prison island. Anyone that commits a felony will be sent here forever. This may seem slightly extreme, but for the following ideas to work properly, it must be this way.
On this island, there will certainly be struggles for food and territory. The only means of food will be that which is airdropped in, which shall be much less then needed to sustain the population of the island. This will ensure strife and havoc as people strive to survive. To assist in this strife, weapons will be airdropped in. These shall range from swords to pistols. This will make for much faster paced fighting. Also, once a year, better weapons, such as M16s, will be dropped in for added warfare. Finally, on a random day of the year the prisoner standing in the predesignated spot will be set free. The resulting war and treachery resulting over this peice of land will be enormous. All of these factors will ensure that the population of this island is never overcrowded.
In order to pay for this enormous monetary undertaking, the events taking place on this island will be recorded and played on television. This program on the television would be the ultimate reality television show and thus draw a massive amount of wealth from advertising. The income generated by the program should easily pay for the weapons and food supplied to the island with plenty left over to subsidize the government.
People may think this solution is barbaric, but it is really the only option that can be implemented successfully. Some of the alternatives people will offer are rehabilitation, execution, and the current system. All of these have fatal flaws.
The current prison system simply does not work. Felons who will continue to commit crimes go free, and those who are rehabilitated do not. Also, in order to hold a single prisoner it costs the American people over $50,000 a year. This outrageous sum is more than most people make in a single year.
Execution of all prisoners sounds well and good. It would cut down on the costs, correct? Sadly, this is not the case. For each person that is put on death row, the total cost is roughly twice that of a person simply given a life sentence. Also, the violence inside of prisons would increase, as prisoners would have nothing to lose during the short holding period. Finally, many more escape attempts would take place during the short holding period due to the inmates not having the threat of losing something.
Rehabilitation is another solution that quite simply will not work. Some prisoners can certainly be rehabilitated but there are many more that cannot be. Sadly, several of these people that cannot be rehabilitated are intelligent enough to fake it. These people must not be let back into society. Also, the cost issue is important. The cost of rehabilitating so many people would be astronomical. The cost per prisoner would at least double.
There is only one solution that has been presented so far that will work. Not only would it solve the problems showing up in the current system, it would literally pay for itself and still have money left over.

It's called a satire, dude. The object is to poke fun at the current system by creating an outlandish alternative that is insane, yet better in some way in order to show that reform needs to take place. I focused on money to help prove a point. Also, I am sure you have heard the whole argument about the death penalty costing more then a life sentence.

Where did that come from? You selective reading again? I think it was you that asked me once if I was a mind reader. Are you practicing to take up that profession now?
This is typical of liberals folks. If they can't win the arguement, change the subject, throw insults at those that don't share their views, accuse them of something, anything, just to get away from the subject at hand. Do they print a handbook on this stuff?

Re: Lock 'em up - throw away the key
I liked DCP's essay reminded of the movie Papillion (Butterfly) starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.
The French had such a place an actual prisoner island in the Carribbean somewhere called Devil's Island. The movie was about Papillion (Steve McQueen) who actually escaped the island.
In real life it was quite a humbling and depressing experience for the worst convicts.

Here's the deal. I'll answer your question, but you have to promise to do the same. I'm sick of you changing the subject because you can't win the arguement. I will absolutely refuse to answer any more of your off the topic questions if you don't answer my question at the end.
First off, I believe that corporal punishment should be allowed in schools and homes. There is a huge difference between a swat on the rear and a beating. Let's make that distinction first, because I get the feeling that you are trying to entrap me with your question.
I also believe that you are comparing apples and oranges here. I do not believe that child molesters can be rehabilitated. I believe alcoholics can.
With that said, if a parent BEATS (remember the difference here) his child, then absolutely that parent should be arrested and put in the pokey to think about what he just did. If he can prove he has been rehabed, let him out to go on being a father. If he does it again, lock him up and throw away the key. With that stick hanging over his head, it's doubtful he would ever lay a hand on his child again.
If a father molests his children - needle time.
Now for your question (I've asked several times with no answer). Assume that you have children. Hard to imagine this if you don't, but when you have kids you can't love anything any more. You would absolutely lay your life down a thousand times for your kids. Imagine that kind of love. Now, tell me, when you love something that much, would you want someone released from prison that could harm them in the sickest way possible, and then possibly kill them so they can't talk? Would you be willing to take the chance that this person has been rehabbed, knowing that often these types of criminals do it all over again? Let him move in the street across from you, because I sure don't want someone like that any where near my kids.

El Molde, money does not buy justice??? Do you think that OJ Simpson would have been found innocent in the murder trial if he had the public defender office representing him instead of the "Dream Team" of lawyers?
Fleaflicker, a friend of mine was brutally raped when she was 15 years old. The perp was 19 and told her he would kill her dog if she told anyone what happened. She looked like she was in a car wreck, which is the story she choose to tell her parents. She did not want anything to happen to her puppy. She became with pregnant. Her parents took her to have an abortion. Her parents were a preacher and a school teacher. She is now forty-one years old. She still bears emotional scars from what happened. She still sees a therapist.
LP, it does seem that many of the cases of child abuse we see in the news are repeat offenders. I have not seen any facts/figures to back this up. I feel that taking innocence away from a child or for that matter an adult is a very serious offense. It should be treated as a serious offense. I do support the death penalty. As far as abortion, I think it should be legal, safe, and rare. It should be used in the case of rape and when the mother's life is in danger.
Are there more case of these types abuse now or are we just hearing about them easier because this is the information age?
