Re: The Mighty Big Ten
The Big Eleven should do fine from here on out. Their Top 4 teams "belong"....The 3 that we saw in Bowl games already completely stink and had no business (except that they were in a Big 10 market = TV) being in a bowl game.
Bdftballham says "7 of the 11 are playing in bowls." ARE YOU KIDDING ME ????? Are you proud of that? And you mention that this is nearly as many teams as are in the Big East. What is that supposed to mean, bigger is better? I think the BE has commanded much more respect this Bowl season so far with their performances as opposed to the Big 11's.
Heck, Iowa was 9th in the Big TEN.....9th place in a Bowl game....that is a complete joke....and they played better than anyone else. I saw Maryland play this year and they are not very good....yet they killed the Big 11's 5th team, Purdue.
I do think they will do better with Wisky, PSU, Mich today and OSU next week but it is a 4-team conference this year...They've got as poor a bottom 2/3 as any league in the land and that translates to easy wins for the Big 4 and we'll find out if they are really as good as the pollsters think they are today.
Are you enjoying much success this bowl season D-nice?
once again, thank you for your genuine concern, I feel like we are such close friends now and you really care about my destiny. I have enjoyed great success this bowl season, I am currently using the rest of my vacation visiting family and friends in beatiful bedford county. and I recently was awarded a very sizable raise at that same job. unfortunately being busy visiting laughing and playing does not allow for observing much college football, so therefore I rely on the always dependable and knowledgeable sports fans on bleachercoaches to fill me in on the latest sports and information when I'm otherwise engaged. Also since we are nearly like family Goodwill maybe we should hang out and laugh and do other things that people like us feel about eachother do, y'know like grapple and choke eathother out and pummel eachother like Chuck Liddel and Tito Ortiz http://www.ufc.com

Re: The Mighty Big Ten
I haven't even followed the thread, but the B10 has been disappointing this year. Matchups seemed pretty rough for some of the teams too...
Minny crapped themselves up 38-7. It happened, but it is something that should NEVER happen. 31 points allowed in 22 minutes to allow OT!?!?
Purdue- I have felt all along this is a pretty bad team. Maryland isn't terrible. Hollenbach is a good qb that doesn't make many bad decisions. They had decent WRs and an above average ground game. They play a B10 style and smacked Purdue right in the teeth. Physical teams cause all sorts of problems for Purdue.
Iowa had to play last year's champs. They had a year that many didn't expect to be so poor. I liked them in this matchup though, and they took a nice lead before crapping themselves too. Texas was better in every position I felt except for QB. Iowa hung tough and almost won.
PSU- Tough matchup against a good UT team, but they came up with a great defensive effort today and won. I think they looked very solid on both offense and defense, but they didn't finish drives enough to score more points.
Wisky- I think they are over rated as many do, but they are a pretty good team. They remind me of Wake. They aren't flashy and don't do a whole lot of things great, but they do a lot of things well. They are up on Ark late in the game. I hope they don't fall into the category of Minny and Iowa and blow it.
Mich- They get USC. I think Mich is the 2nd best team in the country. They can look to prove that today.
OSU- They get Florida in the championship. I think OSU is the only clear cut favorite in matchups of the bowl season.
So the B10 matches up against Texas, Texas Tech, Maryland, Tennessee, Arkansas, USC, and Florida.
The BE matchups are very good for the BE teams. They had a much easier bowl lineup facing East Carolina, Kansas State, Georgia Tech, Western Michigan, and Wake Forest.
If Wisky hangs on here, it helps the B10 again and shows that in terms of the top halves of a conference...the B10 might be the best. Tenn went down. Ark may go down. I think Fla will go down as well. All 3 matchups going the way of the B10 would be real good for the B10.
South Carolina had a close game vs a tough Houston team and pulled it out. UK shocked me beating Clemson as well.
Saying the 3 that already lost doesn't belong is a big statement by Head Roadie. 2 of them lost VERY close games. The team that I feel is the worst of those teams is Purdue and it showed. They started out looking to be OK then they just stunk it up this year. I really don't think they are very good. The Iowa's, Minny's, and Purdue's are just like teams like Okie State, Missou, Oregon State, Oregon, Arizona State, UCLA, K State, etc.
I'll agree saying they don't belong if they'd just elimate about 10 of the bowls out there (which I wish would happen...this isn't a thing where everybody makes it) 64 teams make bowl games.. obviously some teams that aren't great out there will make it from ALL of the major conferences since there are all those tie-ins.

"Saying the 3 that already lost doesn't belong is a big statement by Head Roadie. "
In a normal year even by Big 11 standards those teams arent good enough to qualify for a bowl game is what I mean. They qualified because they beat each other. Iowa=9th in Big 11?? Only 2 conference wins? Beat Syracuse of the BE cellar in OT??? deserving? They did play well vs a Texas team that is a ghost of what they were earlier in the year...they tailed off tremendously after losing two games at end of season to what was inferior competition earlier in the season.
"So the B10 matches up against Texas*Loser to K-State*, Texas Tech, Maryland*3rd in ACC Division and losers to BE opponents GT and WF*, Tennessee*Won 2 of last 4 reg. season games including Vandy and held on when Ky was inside their 5 in the last minute at home*, Arkansas, USC, and Florida* All quality*.
The BE matchups are very good for the BE teams. They had a much easier bowl lineup facing East Carolina*agree*, Kansas State*Probably the #3 team in the Big 12 at end of season*, Georgia Tech*ACC overall runnerup/quality*, Western Michigan*agree but their opponent Cinci doesn't belong IMO either*, and Wake Forest*Quality*."
Based on my comments within the asterisks, I disagree with your assessment coach.
I'll also disagree in that Wisconsin has been the Big 10's bright spot thus far. Michigan was manhandled and Penn State, while getting a nice win, did nothing to distinguish themselves as a Top 10 or even 15 team versus a UT squad that had been tailspinning since early Nov. and was at best the sixth best SEC team late in the year (Fla, LSU, Aub, Ark, Ga) and S.Carolina could probably argue that they would be #6 in that loop.
My argument here is that the OVERALL quality of the Big 10 is Very very poor this year. PSU and Wisky in a normal year may have been only 7-5 type teams, we'll never know. All those teams records may be inflated by the pathetic teams they played besides themselves (The Big 4)

Re: The Mighty Big Ten
You have got to love how anti-B10 bias has skewed this guy's observations. That was by far the best performance Penn State put up all season. Tennessee was tailspinning? 6th best team in the SEC?????? You're out of your mind, Roadie. Maybe 4th, but certainly not 6th. South Carolina is a garbage team who wins a game here and there. I'll give you that LSU and UF are better than Tennessee, but Georgia? Georgia had a terrible season! Tennessee only had 3 losses, Roadie, not 15.
The only teams in the Big Ten that are going nowhere fast are Purdue and Northwestern. Everyone else is righting the ship.

Re: The Mighty Big Ten
How would you describe a 7 pt. win over S.Carolina, a 3-pt win over Alabumma, before being throughly whipped by LSU and Arkansas (who you rate below UT??????) beating helpless Vandy and then a goal line stand to hold off UK at home on Sr. day....Does that constitue a strong late season effort or tailspinning?
Georgia terrible season? hmmmmm.....they finished with the same 9-4 record that UT had. granted they had a rough spell in mid-season where they were not playing very well but they finished with wins over Auburn, Ga. Tech and Va. Tech.
There is no way, unless you are suffering from dillusions, that you could say UT was better than Ark (who beat them by 2+ TDs in November) and Auburn (who they did not play) so 5th is the best you could possibly say based on a first-half of the season win over Ga.
Who do you think would be favored if Ga and UT played on a neutral field next week? That should answer your question. I stick by my #6 comment.
Now, I will say that yes, PSU played a nice game today and that the #6 team in the SEC is no slouch....but they did not beat a top 15 type team nationally. Still, there best win of the season I would agree.
