Let's be honest Moldo, if you were reminiscing about how the Rangers beat McCort in '05 there would be no talk about how competition wasn't as good as 15 years ago because that would downplay the successful season that Oswalt, Trout, and Rearick had. The same thing is going on here. You wouldn't bring up the past if the topic was focussed on FH's success but when it is about McCort's success this season you make it a point to bring up the fact that prior teams were better (even if it is arguable) in order to downplay McCort's success.

It is not a shame to honor these kids and what they have accomplished. After all, they have brought better press and brought better attention to this area through their accomplishments than anything you have accomplished in this last year. You haven't exactly cured cancer here my friend.

Give it up, give them some credit, and don't make excuses. These are talented kids that make even you look good because they come from you're area and they represent you with class.

I dunno why every topic on here turns into personal attacks against each other. Moldy is obviously gonna argue for FH players as well as the BM faithful will argue for their own players. The point of competition being different as recently as 10 years ago is quite valid considering enrollment numbers have dropped even since then. As for the "glory days" of Jack Buchan and 30 years ago...I don't know what the number of kids that Jtown had at that time but I'm pretty sure (considering the steel mills had just recently shut down) that they had way more kids...and those that were in school had parents that were working and instilling their blue collar work ethic in their kids. Today Jtown has fewer kids with a higher percentage of single mothers raising them, and all surrounding areas simply have fewer kids...which as I said leads to smaller talent pools. So the question of whether or not the level of competition is the same seems pretty logical to me. Why do you think AAAA teams are better than A ones...more kids maybe???? That being said I still feel that local schools can still put together very competitive teams and squads like BM's team last year almost certainly would have been competitive in any era simply because they had an incredibly strong line with Wayne Jones and company complimented by Username6, Scott Lewis, Chris Seidel, and a young DeFrances. I'm sure the same argument can be made for many other dominant teams over the past 10-15 years but the fact remains they weren't facing the same level of competition week to week. This does not mean that BM's team this year could not have competed with last years team for instance because they had totally different attacks. Could last years BM team have run the ball down the 07 version's throat? Probably. But did they face any team in the area with an aerial attack as good as this years team? I say no. So year to year we see different teams with different styles which in my mind makes for great football and challenges local coaching staffs to utilize their own particular talents, instead of relying on replacing talent to run the same system. So yea we could argue about era's forever and no one would be right or wrong, but I do agree that instead of dwelling on the good ol days we should focus on the present and acknowledge those that make the game so great.

it's impossible to compare era's because of the how the game evolves and how players change. It's like trying to compare Babe Ruth to Barry Bonds theirs arguments for both but the only way to compare is who dominated their era the most

It's not exactly like we're going back 50 years here. We're talking 10-15 years. What's evolving? Except for more artificial turf (which benefits today's players) the game itself hasn't changed.

Just throwin this out there for the heck of it...Ruth played before baseball was integrated and many say the Babe was partially black himself...interesting huh.
