I completely agree with Sheephead. Public schools are catching up with catholic schools. If all of the players at Johnstown stay for the next few years then McCort better watch out and that also goes along with all of the other schools not just Johnstown. And education at public schools are increasing.

Ah incase you have not noticed technology in the classroom is a must these days and if you are not getting it you are being short changed. If you are one that doesn't understand that then I question your quality of education. I mean really that is not the type of thinking that we should embrace. Schools need to keep up with the ever changing world of eduaction. If a school is not thinking in a progressive manor then it has major problems. It sounds to me like excuses for a lack of vision or funds. If a school cannot provide the educational tools to keep up then it should not claim that it provides the best education possible. I totally understand that catholic schools lack funding right now. Is it right though that the fundraising efforts are going toward buliding a proposed athletic center instead of laptops engineering programs, and upgrades to a school that has not been updated in decades. I have concern for the private schools in the area. I think they are going to find themselves asking why is this happening when the enrollment numbers continue to go down. It is easy the foundation that these schools were built on is falling apart. In public schools today their is accountability with test scores, funding and laws. The private sector has to answer to nobody but themselves. The future is now and right now there is no-one in the rearview mirror because they are passing you by due to that type of thinking and those expectations.

In the football world I have a lot of respect for McCort those that do not well are just jealous. You mentioned Richland in a previous statement. You claimed that that team was four years in the making maybe so, or was is progressive thinking on that hill that thwarted them to success this year. It sure seems that way to me with all that is going on there. Just a thought.

I had the privilege of sitting in on several classes for different teachers in the area. Granted they were both elementary schools, I got the same from each teacher, hardly anything nice to say about the school, kids, coworkers etc. Lots and lots of complaints about regulations this and that. I've had about 25 different teachers in the private school system and I can tell you they love being there. They love the atmosphere, kids, the whole package. When asked if they would rather get paid more to work at a public school system, "No way! The kids are great here, they show a true passion for learning." Ask a public school teacher if they would want to teach at a private school, "No way! The pay isnt good enough." Shows where their priorities are!

As a future teacher, I personally I want to work in the private school system, I want to send my kids to the private school system and Id work as many jobs to suppliment my pay as needed. Sure all teachers are "there for the kids" but I would rather have a teacher that WANTS to be there for my child rather than constrained.

Heres a personal quote on expectations, "You can either set the bar high or set the bar low, but I can guarantee you that no olympic high jumper has ever lowered the bar just so he or she could meet it." (DWG, 2008)

The teacher that you mentioned above along with many others from that system that seem to love public school they work in.
I have spoken to these so called defectors and they truely love the kids, and school. I have not heard of any of them wanting to go back. It appears to me that they are very happy with their current situations as teachers and coaches.

FYI... 99% of people will work for more money if they are doing the same job.

If you graduate from college and owe $30K when you are finished... I don't know how you'd survive on private school pay. Making just over 30K is barely enough to have a house, car, college loan, and household bills.

Do private school teachers need to pass the state praxis test before they can teach at private institutions?? Public educators need to pass this exam in order to teach at a public schools?

Are private school teachers required to complete ACT 48 credits like their counterpart public educators?

If not, then why wouldnt a person not love teaching at a private school for no pay? If their spouse has a good job and good insurance then why not go and teach at a school with low classroom #'s, no discipline issues, and no hassle from the state.

Does anyone have access to PSSA scores and compare BM, BC and BG's to the area public schools PSSA tests?

What if that job is in a new place working with new people?

Im sure Richland police wouldnt want to be police in D.C. or New Orleans (top two most crime-ridden cities in USA) do you?

Oh wait, they're still doing the "same job"

Teaching would also fall under that "1%"
