I have seen a western PA player who lies between Revis and Shubik in terms of ability and athleticism. Shaler Area's Nick Sefscik, a 6-3 185 junior combo guard currently averaging just shy of 20ppg and is the 2nd leading scorer this season in WPIAL AAAA behind Connellsville's James Hairston fits that bill.
Sefscik is more athletic than Shubik, but not quite the athlete Revis is. Sefscik has the "hop in his step" (explosive 1st step, can jump stop in traffic) that separates him from DS and can get him to the basket. Nick also shoots the ball a lot better than Revis and Shubik and has an array of ball skills that enable him to be an effective combo guard and play pg or sg equally well. I believe that Revis and Shubik are strictly pgs.
Depending upon how Nick's summer goes in AAU basketball, he could end up a anywhere from low D1 (Patriot League and NEC types) to mid-major D1 (Horizon Conference, Colonial Athletic Conference, or maybe a lower tier A-10 team). A lot of small to mid level D1s are already inquiring and have seen him play. One coach at a Tournament that Shaler participated in over Christmas who has coached dozens of D1 players (inlcuding Clemson's starting pg this year and the starting sg at WinthropU) called him a "Definite Division I player."
I believe that Nick would be a good fit at an NEC type school.

Drew Shubik
Ok kids pay attention, I am going to say this once and only once. Mr. Shubik WAS ranked this summer but as the summer moved on, so did the interest. Bad back, bad "D", slow first step, slow jumpshot, and a lack of physical play hurt him. BUT, he remains a #1 choice for a few D-1 schools. Yes, they are low D-1 offers, bur D-1 offers just the same. The DUKES of Pittsburgh would take him if all of the other guards back out, but would Drew play ahead of McAllister, Higgins, or even Blumling? Noway Hozay!!
You can catch him in town next season when his team visits Robert Morris and St. Francis. You saw and read it FIRST.
Also the kid going to Albany has ties--the HS and College are big buddies. W/O the ties he does not go D-1.

Drew Shubik came back tonight 1/22/04 against Portage after a 2-game let-off, he scored 37 pts. and played the entire game, he looked really solid on both sides of the court. His back is back to form and more than likely so the Cougars will be too. I think he's by far the best in D-5 and top three on this side of PA and possibly the entire state. His presence will ignite the Cougars and with new addition Josh Neri, I pick the Cougars to probablly win the D-5 crown. Drew is a great player and will definetally go D-1 somewhere.

OK, I am glad I got confirmation on Shubik from a reliable source. I also heard the likes of Air Force, Navy, Sacred Heart are recruiting Shubik from a VERY reliable source.
BTW, I could easily find out if Quinnipiac is recruiting or has offered DShubik. I have an acquaintance who coached with QU's current coach.
If Shubik is being recruited and is offered by NEC schools, I have to believe our kid at Shaler (Nick Sefscik) will be a low to mid-major D1 combo guard.
