You're right. I would say transferring is worse. When you backout of a committment, you basically back out of an engagement. When you transfer, you get a divorce. My whole point is you can never look at things from an objective perspective. Do you realize there are probably at least 10 Pitt players who have done the same thing Samuelson did? Does Pitt quit offering players once they commit to a school? I think not.

So at what age should a handshake, or a verbal commitment, be binding. After you can drive? After you can shave? After you can vote? When you register for selective service? Can you sign your own driver's license at age 16, or does daddy have to sign too? If you GIVE a verbal commitment to a college at age 17, does it mean NOTHING until you are 18? If you are 17 and get hired for a summer job, and then don't show up the first day, is that O.K? Heck, I'm only 17. What should it matter? It used to be a man's word is his bond. If you are old enough to accept a scholarship at age 17, shouldn't you me man enough to honor it? And Nebraska saying that if a kid who reneges from a verbal commitment from another team is a good character kid, that's a joke too. It's looking out for #1 in both cases and forget who you step on along the way.

By the sound of things your from the generation that's leading a depleting social security, foreclosed on so many homes that the banks nearly failed, depleted any national surplus we may have had, and so on. The younger generation if anything learned it from their parents.

Moldy, I couldn't agree with you more. Signing your drivers license and your summer poll boy job is just as important as choosing what school will develop your skills for the NFL, choosing an education to support the rest of your life, working with a coaching staff and teammates over 40 hours a week for the next 5 years, and place you are going to live for a half of a decade. You brought up a really good point.

Usually you can't KILL yourself or somebody else with a signed scholarship form. But you can get a nasty paper cut.

-MY- generation, the one that has a hard-earned income, is the one FOOTING THE BILL for every other generation. FDR screwed up royally. SOCIAL SECURITY was -NEVER- intended as a blanket pension program for every living person in this country, especially the illegal ones who NEVER contribute a cent towards it. The banks nearly failed, because people who never should have been given huge uncollateralled loans then couldn't pay because they were way upside down, the banks had no choice but forclosures, and had to eat their losses. Free credit for everyone! You opened this can of worms.

Sorry Manfred. I am a little older than these kids that are choosing these colleges. The point is all generations can have blame passed towards them. But the future looks a lot more bleak for the young generation than it did for the older generations, when they were young. It's not fair to say that these kids are anymore about themselves than we were at that age.

Maybe not as an entire group, but this generation has so much more "distractions" than our generation ever did. Is that a byproduct of progress? You can blame any generation, I guess, but I.M.H.O. we've done the best we could, and it doesn't ever seem to be enough. Sorry for the tangent here. This needs better discussion on the political thread. Moldy, Kirk, bring us back to topic. My bad.
