91...that was the same year Township played in the Western Final down at University of Pittsburgh. Not sure against who but I'm thinking it may have been Clairton. Township had a great team that year. Gary Black, Brad Pitera and Jerry Jones were their studs. Played real scrappy and hit the boards..CRUSHER92 wrote:I know I am going way back but in 1991 we made the Elite 8 and lost to Mercyhurst Prep at Clarion.

I know we played them at the UPJ tournament my sophomore year (89-90) and I think we beat them by 4. First varsity game that I ever played in.

Yeah..that was my Senior year. I think we went something like 20-8 and upset some teams to win the district 5 title. Mccort was always loaded around that time. I remember my sophmore year(88) they scored 102 points on us. Scott Instone tore us up. They had a nice guard around then as well..I think his name was Ron. Funny..my senior year we won districts and lost first state playoff game. but the next year was the year Township was really good but got upset in district playoffs and wasn't the champs. They did however go on to miss the state final by one game.CRUSHER92 wrote:I know we played them at the UPJ tournament my sophomore year (89-90) and I think we beat them by 4. Ron Hobbs. My junior year was when we went to the Elite 8 and we finished 3rd in D6. Funny how the draw works out.

Yep..Ronnie Hobbs..that's it. We played in a summer league up in Westmont every year. Battling McCort every summer really helped our program out and prepared us for the regular season. Always some nice physical battles against them that primed us to compete against Windber come winter. Back then, Windber was always the team to beat in District 5.CRUSHER92 wrote:Ron Hobbs. Yes I remember those summer league games. Windber was always tough. They had a great team that 89-90 year.

Didn't ct go the elite 8 in single A in 2002. If I'm correct that was Andy Byer's freshmen year, ct was like the 5 seed in the district and ended up losing to Kennedy Catholic after being up by 1 at the half.

I knew thebrigade was wrong about complaining about the play-in, that play-in game actually usually gives the winner a little mojo. Quaker Valley last year in PIAA made it to West Final, Apollo-Ridge this year in WPIAL, Brentwood didnt beat any teams with a bye so cant really say it helped them, everyone they played and beat in the WPIAL played a play-in.
Conemaugh got a real tough game ahead with West Middlesex but they could at least match Quaker Valley's success last year with a win. Gotta stay all over Dogan or get him in foul trouble. I'll be rooting for CT, I think West Middlesex is the only team in the West bracket that can hang with BF and beat them. Pay no attention to the early game between BF-WM(BF won by 10), those early games dont mean much to me, both schools were coming right out of football season. I dont even start coming out to games until after the new year. Aliquippa and Clarion's hoops teams were both hurt by football, Clarion was able to rebound, Quip never really did, they did play BF tough in the final game of the regular season but they ended up with the #20 seed in the playoffs and lost to Jeannette after winning their play-in.
