Again, when mergers are brought up, both the sides for and the sides against need to be grown ups about it. There are both good things and bad things that come with mergers. For one to not do due delligence case by case is wrong. I definitely agree with you that the first option should be merging districts and not schools. But if the reality is that merging schools is the best solution then that needs to be excepted also. Again, I have no dog in this particular fight.
As far as a mute button 1) you can choose to ignore or 2) this is a private entity so find the person who has the power to delete and talk to them. They just did so with the Bishop McCort thread.
The emoticon indicated I was joking about the mute button. Not nit-picking either, but it is due
diligence not delligence.
In regards to the topic of consolidation, here's what most people think... if SOP lived in Ferndale, we might get his constant rants about the school. However, based on his rants, we've deducted that he lives in Johnstown. Also based upon his rants, what we've also learned is that he basically wants all of the schools in the city to be merged so his tax rate will go down and JHS will once again field a Jerry Davitch led football team that will beat Windber for the mythical state championship because everything was better in the gold old days before the liberal evil PSEA screwed it all up. I hope I didn't miss anything. My point of view is to simply remind him and others that consolidation is a complex subject which has many aspects - and the biggest just happens to be the opinions of the parents/citizens of each public school district.

If you want to see a complete list of all of Ferndale's achievements, just read the front page of the school district website.

Is Ferndale considering laying off its French teacher?

The latest census data came out day before yesterday. Cambria county lost 4.6% of its population since 2010! Demographics show the lowest number of school age children in recorded history. Yet we have the same number of public school districts that we had in 1970 when we had double the school age population in the county and quadruple the population in Johnstown. 14 public school districts in Cambria county and if you throw in districts within a stones throw of Johnstown that are in Somerset county (Windber and Conanaugh Twp) there are 16 public school districts serving a population of around 126,000 people. Yet these districts, which are operating at an average of 40-50% capacity (save the new "downsized" Richland and JHS) compete at the free money trough for "funds" to engage in bizarre new building projects like it was 1970. This is criminal. 16 separate independent public school districts with separate physical plants, separate administration, separate superintendents, separate paid everything that suck the life out of taxpayers, more and more of which are moving away.

Irony could be defined as Westmont residents who don't want their kids to go to school with JHS kids begging for their districts to be consolidated with those same kids so they no longer have to pay sky high taxes.

Westmont residents are begging to be consolidated with Johnstown?
