In High School a kick going into the end zone is always a touchback. When it's muffed it's still a kick. PM fell on a dead ball, that's why it's a touchback.

If anyone who attended the game can clarify on some penalties and that punt situation I would love to hear any explanation :)
This happened in a game I watched earlier this year.... With punts, it's the same as a kickoff in high school football... Once the ball crosses the goal line on a kick (as long as the returner does not get complete possession and fumble), it is deemed a dead ball and touchback... Maybe people misunderstand the rule because it is not so in the NFL

I'm guessing the is to avoid injury somehow?

Konjo, I was not at the Liggy/PM game tonight but any muffed punt that is blown dead in the endzone is a touchback if even recoved by the punting team.  Yes its one of those old strange kicking rules that are still in the rule book. It actually amazings that the PM staff doesn't know that rule or understand the call to the point of earning a 15 yard penalty, but then again there are many people who struggles on the free kick rule also

Question.... Then what stops teams from batting the ball into the enzone on punts then? Seems like a pretty stupid ideas for any football. If anything the ball should go back to the yardline it was muffed or touched yet.

It a penalty to bat the ball, that's what prevents it.

The punt call was correct. And Smith played AFTER the helmet to helmet call. He got crushed a few more times then went out. I think they played better with Daugherty in. (SPELL?)
