Back to the leadership thing (you can continue the other conv. as well, I just want to revisit this)...

I certainly agree about those leadership qualities Gunner. I learned a lot about leadership in my latter years of HS and realized a lot of mistakes I was making. Regardless of a person's charisma, someone who wants to improve in their sport should be open-minded to a more knowledgable person. But some kids don't have that type of discipline and can't get their own ego out of the way. So to get people to listen, that is when you need charisma and other such characteristics. So if this exchange student has these characteristics and kids are willing to listen and learn from him, why shouldn't he be a leader. Slacker was making a comment saying that foreign kids shouldn't be leaders...that is what is rediculous.

I know a lot of these kids for NB, and there talent is unbelievable. MOst fo these kids play year around if not organized the play pick up games. These kids breathe soccer.
I've been lucky to coach a good many of these kids for the past couple years in indoor and ayso. I know what they are made and the only thing that can stop them is themsleves.

go nbc soccer, its about time

NBC soccer has been improving for a while now and thats a good thing. If we can get some good programs in the county then maybe some other districts and schools will give us some respect.

I am from Everett and as far as the foreign leadership thing, here's whats up. The kid knows some soccer, but wanted to play football at the beginning of the year and thereby missed camp. He didn't gel as part of the team by missing camp and the first few practices during school. Then he came in and he doesn't play the style of soccer that Everett does. 4him, you played on teams with me. I got redcarded for you in Lewistown one summer. Everett is a physical, Bedford County, Country boy team. If this kid makes an effort to be part of the team, they'll respect his leadership attempts more, but right now they are a team and he's on the outside looking in.

Taking falls is part of the game on every level, but a foul has to be committed to make the call. If the official just blows his whistle everytime somebody falls in soccer, he's gonna be lightheded a quarter of the way through the game.

Well then, my mistake...I was told by Mr. Claycomb that the kids took to him well. But I suppose that was a poor observation on his part. I certainly hope that this kid is helping more than harming the team as any European player should be able to do.

Defender, you know that I, in particular, agree with you on the physical nature of our soccer play. And I loved having that style of defense in front of me as a keeper and I didn't mind the PK's that resulted from it sometimes. Heck, we sent numerous guys to the hospital (my apologies to those kids). I am not one to dive unless I am absolutely getting raped and still not getting the call. Otherwise, I find it more advantageous to use my balance to continue on and not have the whistle blown giving the rest of their defense a chance to get back. However, if someone has mastered the art well enough and their team has someone who can take free kicks well, why not create scoring opportunities for your team?

Lastly, with Everett's size and strength this year, are they still a physical team? With guys like Rakoczy, Decker, and Grance, I would percieve them to be more of a speed team. Now, I realize that McCahan has probably laid a few guys out and Mann has size (but that isn't his style).

easy there 4him...its ok to play physical, but sendin guys to the hospital aint cool, i know cuz i was one of them, someone (who shall remain anonymous) knocked me cold after i had cleared the ball, i wake up on the ground and my coach and trainer were leanin over top of me. that was the same game in which one of our better players had his shin bone shattered and now has a metal rod in his leg because someone (who shall also remain anonymous) decided to do a slide tackle on the goal line as the ball was rolling out. but its part of the game and we still won that night, the only thing you can do is take some advil and get out there the next day and give it your all

I believe I played in that game. Didn't I? I remember the shin incident and who that was (not me, for those wondering), but I don't remember your incident. Doubtful that that was me either. I wasn't a big hitter. I don't think that it is right to be sending people to the hospital either, but that is part of the game. When Travis got hurt that game, it wasn't intended for him to be injured. I am sure everyone was backing off the ball after that though or atleast had that in their mind when they went to make contact. And that is the advantage to playing physical.

Well, I have no cracked shinguards so it must have been the "close" thing. But I always wore child's small shinguards up around my knees, so it is more likely that you cracked my shin. But like my signature says, "once you have wrestled, everything else in life is easy!" So I just waived the stretcher off and kept playing, lol.

What is going on with the NBC soccer team? They started out on fire. They are now 4-5. Is the competition getting tougher or what? I figured they'd be really tough this year. What's going on?
