Didn't Clinton reduce the size of the military? I don't know, I'm just throwing that out there because I know it's coming. But my guess is the reservists are over there because over the last decade the size of the military shrank.
Yes, most reservists probably thought they would never see action. Many of them I know are older (30+) guys that probably never dreamed of getting deployed to a place like Iraq. Nonetheless, when you join the military in any capacity, you must realize you are there for a reason. And the chance of being in combat exists.

If you want answers to questions about the military, ask them of someone who is/ was in the military, not listen to the latest slime attack from the CNN types. Bill Clinton cut the US military force in the 90's in HALF. How better to make his budget figures look good. The point about young men joining the Guard or Reserves these days for "college money" does not always apply. Some know they are doing it for their country, some think they will be drafted soon anyway why not join and "pick" what you want to get into? If you get drafted, you will likely be put in infantry or armor anyway. It used to be ( 70's) the National Guard and Reserves were the VERY LAST to go, because we had plenty of manpower back then. However, every man or woman that swears the oath knows the possibility exists of being called up. It also used to be that the NG and Reserves got NOTHING when it came to schooling credits or money. That was an incentive put in some years later to entice those that couldn't get college funding for whatever reasons to join up. TRY IT, fella's, and Ladies, it will make a better man and some, women, out of you.
