They do hit a rough stretch, but if you think about it, they couldn't catch the teams they face next week at a better time. The yankess have won only 3 of thier last 14 and the Red Sox have been anything but spectacular over the month of June. The buccos are mashing the ball, they've scored over 4 runs in each of thier last 4 consecutive wins. There is reason for hope, only 3 games out of 2nd place in the division, and only 8.5 out of the lead. Granted, it is June and there is still 102 games left to be played, but the buccos are doing something that they haven't done in a long time, and that's playing .500 ball this late in the season.

They won't sweep the Yankees, but they should be able to get a winning stretch against them, taking two of three (if they're only playing three). Red Sox, I don't know, but if the Bucs play like they did against the Orioles, they should be fine. And of course, right now, they get to beat up on Tampa Bay.

I was in attendance at the 13 inning debacle loss to the Rays. It sucked to watch them play that gutsy and lose. McClendon's squeeze play was the best call I have seen in MLB in a long time.
I was hoping they could sweep the D-Rays and take 2 of 3 in NY and then maybe win 1 in Boston now I really hope they can go 4-2 on this trip but I don't count on it.
On the bright side of the Bucs - Ryan Doumit, formerly of the Altoona Curve, has smashed the ball in his 2 starts and had a sac bunt in the loss to Tampa. I look for him to stay in the bigs when Craig Wilson comes off the DL. They will probably send Restovich down - I hope. This is due in part to how well Tike Redmen has been playing as a role player lately. Perhaps Tike isn't an everyday centerfielder after all. I also look for them to try to move David Ross before the trade deadline. He is an excellent defensive catcher but the Bucs need Doumit and Cota's offense. Plus the Pirates really haven't carried a defensive catcher since Spanky Lavalliere (Kendall was ok behind the plate but we really held onto him for his hitting).
Also Brad Eldred has been promoted to AAA Indy. He is the Pirates #1 prospect according to the organization and Baseball America, I believe. Knowing the Pirates I wouldn't be suprised if he would be called up before the end of the season - even if just for 15 days while someone is on the DL. Injuries could play a role in this or Dave Littlefield (in his infinite wisdom) might just want to see if he is major league ready.
