half of these all area teams are jokes. a kid makes 1st team all state and the trib team with 2 interceptions? give me a break. he had 10 last year and that is a crap reason to put him on this year.

Amen to that Owen. Maybe I thought wrong, but isn't it called the 2006 All-Area team for a reason? Last time i checked, it's not the "Had A Good 05 Season but Had Less Productive 06 numbers" team. Grant it, the kid may be good, but I'm sure there are a multitude of other d-backs with 2 ints on the year.

However, I know that someone will come and say this right back to me, so I'll save you the time. On the other hand of this good cop-bad cop situation, how can you base an all-area team on stats? Sure, one kid may have 6 picks, but that might be because teams picked on him due to his weakness in ability and he got lucky six times. Then you have the stud CB over there, the one whose side opposing QBs never even thought to look toward, and he only has 2 picks because a total of 15 balls were even thrown his way.

Picking an all-area team is hard, especially in football, because football has so many qualitites that just can't be measured by stats and numbers. How do you measure intimidation, leadership, or any other intangibles? You can't. And that's exactly what makes All-Area teams a hot topic on debate sites like these.

GoldenBoy to help you out i mean Scott Lewis did not lead the area in tackles but won the Defensive POY and there is not one person could argue that he didnt deserve it

Perfect example, crazy. Here you have Scott Lewis, the best player on one of the best defenses around. He might not have 150+ tackles, but stats can lie. For example, because Lewis is so good, teams may double team him, leaving Mr. Jones or Mr. Kawchak freed to make some tackles. And because of Lewis' ability to help stop the run, teams may pass more, giving the secondary more chances to make plays. And every time something like this happens, Lewis never gets a tally in the tackles column or another stat to his name, but you can never doubt his extreme influence on the game on every play. And because McCort was so dominant on defense (less plays means less tackles) and Lewis probably rarely played a full game (blowing out other team), and teams keying on him (because he's kinda good ya know), obviously his stats would suffer. But there's definitely not another LB in the area that I would want play for me or with me than Scott Lewis.

The exact point i was trying to make in the all state thread. And I'll tell ya Shope & Matt H. were very, very good lbers but: [quote="GoldenBoy11";p="131764"]
