From high expectations come disappointment. Pitt is one of the top programs in the top conference in college basketball. They fell one game short and lost to an outstanding team in the Elite 8. We Pitt fans are disappointed.

Then there is Penn State. They have low expectations. They win the NIT and now think they are on the map of college basketball.

In all seriousness, congratulations on winning the NIT. Some programs use it as a springboard for future success. Memphis did in Calipari's first year. I don't think they missed the tournament since. Let's see if PSU can do the same.

Hopefully their students can walk across campus and fill up their arena next year. Getting only 5,500 for a home NIT game but taking 37 buses to NYC means only one thing, BAND WAGON. Just watch how quickly they jump off.

Congrats PSU. You're #66!

Nice post, tp. The only difference between Calipari and DeChellis is their records and history. 446-140 for Calipari. Also, he has some NBA coaching experience. DeChellis is 189-196. He's made the NCAA tournament more times with East Tennessee State than he has with PSU. He was ETSU 7 years and he's been at PSU for 6 years. I guess that's why he was crying after their NIT Championship tonight.

DeChellis was crying because he will now have to schedule someone tough before his conference schedule kicks in next year. Does Stoneybrook have any openings?

ham55........correct me if I am wrong, but aren't you a Duke Blue Devil Basketball fan? If my recollection is correct, I am surprised that you would mock the Pitt basketball program for their recent tournament failures.

Let's take a look at your Dookies' last 5 tournaments.

2005: #1 Duke lost to #5 Michigan State

2006: #1 Duke lost to #4 LSU

2007: #6 Duke lost to #11 VCU

2008: #2 Duke lost to #7 West Virginia

2009: #2 Duke lost to #3 Villanova

That is underachieving!

No, deliverance I didn't say that. I find it funny that now that PSU has won the NIT and even before when teams were selected this was a jv tournment, but if pitt were in it it would have been great that they won. I would have liked for PSU to be in NCAA tournament but they were not, so I can live with the fact that won the next best thing. On the other hand the great and mighty big east and pitt have to this point layed an egg and as always their fans can do nothing but continue to post the same thing that they have posted for years. Talk about needing to get a life. It would be great if the final game were between Mich ST & UNC, but then we would really hear it. As to jumping on a bandwagon pitt fans do it every year for football & other sports. Some of us do follow all of the sports programs even some that are not the most popular.

Let's not get on the bandwagon thing on here. All those that post on here regularly are very local to their favorite teams and cheer for them through the think and the thin. But I agree completely, if Penn State wants to get away from the bandwagon "problem" if you will, in basketball. They need to schedule a tougher non-conference schedule. As a student, I do not attend a game until January because every game before that is St. Francis, IUP, and Stoney Brook. Build this excitement and by doing that schedule a few 'Nova, Pitt, or Syracuse's for the non-conference schedule. That will in turn also lead to more season ticket sales.

Everyone on here that is not a PSU fans is busting how bad the NIT is but all seem to have paid a fairly decent amount of time following it.

I am not a Pitt or PSU fan. I am a Texas fan. If Texas makes the NIT, I consider it a failure. I considered this season a failure and they won a game in the NCAA Tournament and gave Duke a very good game. They had every player back except D.J. Augustin and Ian Mooney this year. Mooney was a walk-on that very rarely played. As a PSU fan, I would have to think you consider this season a great success, but don't celebrate too much. That's all I am saying. It could be exactly what the doctor ordered for PSU's basketball team since they had 3,000 fans for most of their home games. Next year expectations will be high. They are going to at least expect a 20 win season and an NCAA Tournament appearance. If it doesn't happen, it will be the Crispin era all over again. PSU basketball will go into oblivion and no one will care. If you want to compare PSU's basketball future to Pitt's future, don't bother. It's not even close. Pitt is finally taking that next step. They are getting a few top notch recruits. It may not lead them to a National Championship right away, but don't even compare PSU to what Pitt has done. That's all.

Trojanpanther,

The difference between you and I is that I've seen Duke win a National Title. I don't find that as underachieving. You can't win em all. As a PITTiful fan you should know that

Good Spin ham. Explain Duke and their underachieving since 2005.
