Parking and hotels are the biggest issues. Sure it's easy to pack 100k into State College for a football game when 30% (rough guess) are students already living there. People would be staying far away just to come to the game. When I went to the Winter Classic in the 'burgh we were lucky to get a hotel downtown. Some friends that waited until later had to stay in Monroeville and near the airport... I don't have any #'s but I'm sure Downtown Pittsburgh has a lot more hotel rooms. Parking may be a bigger issue though... the fields would be unusable that time of year. I guess park elsewhere and shuttle in but how convenient is that?
The biggest issue preventing a Flyers/Pens game may be the Buffalo Sabres and Terry Pegula . Pegula owns the Sabres and also just dumped a huge chunk of change into the aptly named Pegula Ice Arena located on PSU campus. I'm sure if there is a game at Beaver he is going to press hard to be involved in it.
