But still concerned about the QB situation. Adam Dumm had a great game with 4 days notice that he would be starting. But was it adrenalin?

Windber -Vs- Blacklick Valley

NANTY GLO — Needing a win to return to the playoffs, Windber left no doubt steam rolling Blacklick Valley 51-18 in a key WestPAC matchup Friday night.

Blacklick Valley opened up the scoring before the fans could make it to their seats. Isaiah Scott ran around right end on the first play from scrimmage and galloped 77 yards to the end zone. The Vikings led 6-0 after a missed extra point.

Windber answered on its first series. The Ramblers used nine plays, covering 60 yards to even the contest up. Shadoe Smith finished the drive with an 8-yard burst. A Jake Podrasky extra point gave Windber a 7-6 lead.

The Windber defense made a big play on Blacklick’s ensuing possession. Facing a fourth-and-eight from the Windber 33 yard line, the Ramblers pressured quarterback Issac Wurm and forced an incompletion.

Windber's offense capitalized. Braxton Roxby ran through would-be defenders from four yards out and the Ramblers led 14-6 following the extra point.

To begin the second quarter, Windber shut down another Vikings drive in Rambler territory and forced a punt. The Ramblers were thriving off the momentum of its defense and put more points on the scoreboard. Podrasky found Austin Leonardis on a 24-yard touchdown connection. The two point conversion was good and the Ramblers led 22-6 with 5:55 remaining in the half.

Blacklick Valley answered the calling on its next drive. Scott scored his second touchdown of the game when he gashed the center of the Windber defense for a 33-yard score. The two-point conversion failed and the Vikings trailed 22-12.

Windber played determined football throughout the half and padded its lead when Smith scored his second touchdown of the half with a 1-yard plunge. Podrasky tacked on the extra point and the Ramblers had a 30-12 lead.

The Ramblers defense was not to be outdone by the offense. As Blacklick was driving deep inside Windber real estate, Leonardis picked off a Wurm pass. Windber took a 30-12 lead to the locker room.

Blacklick Valley head coach Bill Zamboni said coming into the game that his team must stop Smith. It was not to be on this night.

Smith paced the Ramblers in the half with 111 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Blacklick's dynamic running back Nathan Smith was hurt in the first quarter and did not return to the game.

In the second half, Windber showed more of the same offensive grit. Jared Maurizio scored on a 36-yard run with 10:01 remaining in the third. Podrasky missed the extra point but the Ramblers led 36-12.

The Vikings would no go away without a fight. Brandon Jones took the Windber kickoff 80 yards to the promised land. A failed two-point conversion set the contest 36-18 Ramblers.

Both defenses came up with big stands to start the fourth quarter. Blacklick stopped Windber on fourth-and-nine play.

Windber would not let the Vikings gain any momentum though. Windber stopped the Vikings on fourth down inside the Ramblers' 30 yard line to take over on offense.

The Ramblers rushing attack would not be stopped in Viking country. Smith scored his third touchdown of the game with 6:12 left in the game when he used some shake-and-bake moves to coast into the end zone from 25 yards out.

Smith finished the game with 37 carries, 249 yards and three scores and Maurizio added 105 yards rushing and a TD.

Jared Morris added a 43-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter as the Ramblers were whitewashing the Vikings 51-18, following a successful two-point conversion.

“It's an expectation each year to make the playoffs,” according to Windber head coach Matt Grohal. “The community expects it, the players expect it and the coaches expect it.”

Blacklick drops to 4-4 and will travel to Berlin next Friday. Windber improved to 4-4 on the season and will host Shade in Week# 9.

Unless SH loses to Claysburg week 10, they are most likely in (unless Richland beats FH and then FH beats Bedford). If they beat Mo Valley next week, they could be as high as 5. Looks like Central Cambria will be on the outside looking in.
