Saints beat the rain tonight, downing Cernic's again, 6-1. Must be a slow sports news day, as we were blessed by the presence of none other than Ms. Isenberg.

Manfred,

I see Ms. Isenberg reports St. Michael as clinching their division on Page 1 of the Sports page but on Page 3 of the Sports page it shows StM as 12-2 and Stoystown as 5-7, which means StM did not clinch. Which is accurate?

Put yourself in his shoes. The 'homer' ump, Somerset's girls' softball coach, doesn't call a curve ball strike all night, and the pitcher who never says a bad word to ANYONE, finally says after another ball was called, "COME ON!" The ump turns to the Coach and says, "You have to remove your pitcher". No warning, no explanation, other than he said "COME ON"! When Coach stands up for his player, of course he's going to get tossed. Ridiculous umpire, even more ridiculous the call and subsequent actions. This man should be barred from umpiring. HOMER-ISM at its finest! As poor as the Somerset baseball team is this year, it's no surprise this would be the only way they could possibly win a game.

Tribune reporting, making a mistake? Go figure. Her quote of Matt Gramling "peddle to the metal". Peddle? Why not meddle?

I didn't think Somerset's softball coach was an umpire, unless I'm thinking of the wrong person.

Looks to me like the person listed as coach here:

http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/so ... l/home.htm

is also a baseball umpire in the area. You can put the pedal to the metal however you wish with those two facts.

Regardless of the situation, there is a gentleman from ebenaburg who assigns every umpire for every game.... Coaches have no control or say in who shows up to umpire their games.

While I don't think ALL umpires are bad. Steinbiser is AWFUL!! Really really bad. I was thinking Costea, total brain fart on my part. I knew he was the baseball coach. But back to orginal topic, Stenbiser and whomever his partner usually is.....wow are they bad. His partner even does some AAABA games!
