Well, I just got back from the Windber -vs- Duquesne game, & The Dukes walked out with a nice win. 18 -to 0, was the score.
The Ramblers have nothing to be ashamed of. They held the Dukes to a mere 6 to 0 halftime lead. & that was on count of a Dukes pass that got away from a Rambler defender. It was a game of small mistakes that cost Windber from advancing to the semi-finals of the state against Coudersport, who knocked off a Kennedy Catholic team in Over -Time.
I wished Windber would have run more intricate plays from their Single- Wing. They seemed to play a conservative game of plays tonight. I know they have limited plays that come from a Single- Wing set-up. But they also needed to keep the Dukes guessing just a bit more. A few mental errors from the Ramblers line-man didn't help either. I saw two impact plays by the officials that help change the games face, in the Dukes favor.
Yes! only TWO BAD CALLS !!! I guess that's not too bad in the human error catarglory ?? All -in -all, not a bad game to watch. The worse thing about the game was having to chop two inch thick ice from the metal bleachers so that you could sit down. & YES! the field was very nice & very accomidating.
Windber don't hang your head down, You played a galant efforted game.
going 11-2 ain't too shabby.

It was a great pleasure as Dukes fan to see such a storied program as WIndber...You don't get to see the different teams often but I amfamiliar with the Ramblers...THey played tough and it was a fun offense to watch...A few errors did not go your way and the Dukes were able to hold on...This is what I expected out of the game...Not a blowout because Windber has been there done that...Sometimes you go to states and get teams that have won thier first championships and they play like they don't belong...Windber was the Antithesis of those teams...have a safe journey back up Rt. 30 (I am assuming that is how most are going home)...BTW there was good sportsmanship shown on both sides

Thanks for the good words. Heck ! we don't get that kind of class talk from our own back yard locals. We are well hated for winning too much & when someone beats the Ramblers, it's better than a holiday of sorts. :lol:
I hope you guys do well, & we'll ( The Ramber Nation)be pulling for you to get to Hershey.

...Seriously Thanks for the kind words Sir! I had two buddies from Windber up at IUP...2 of my favorite people I have met through life...I always tell my story that I am a WPIAL man but during my studies I started following D5/6...Especially the Bobcats of Blairsville, the heritage and Winber...I remember a couple of years ago they came to Miller stadium in preparation of the D5/6 championship...Also watching the NFL special on Coach Kush peeked my interest...Enough with boring folks...when is BC SH?

Big IKE, & many others, THANKS for the compliments. The Ramblers just like everyone else try hard to strive in sports. It just so happens that Windber folks don't like to loose, because they are accustomed to their winning ways. Duquesne & the likes are the same way. There are certain sports that really stick out as a go getter type & football & basketball have been on the front burner at Windber. Not to say that the other sports don't good.
When was the last time you saw Duquesne or Alliquippa win the High Diving competition ? :lol: :roll: It just isn't going to happen, & the same goes for Windber & teams like Forest Hills, B.C. etc... they show case a certain sport, & mostly live & die with it.
May "The DUKES", go the distance. You only have to win one more game(next Week @ Altoona) & your at least guaranteed the Silver Football @ Hershey. But don't stop there !!!!

For those of you not fortunate enough to attend, you missed a great football game.
With the exception of one big pass play, a couple of mental mistakes by the Ramblers, and one very questionable pass interference call, which led to the Dukes second touchdown, the game was actually very even.
Let it be understood that I don't mean to take anything away from the Dukes by saying that the game was even. They are, without doubt, a very good football team. Their team speed, especially on defense, is exceptional. On offense Layton Dunn and Elijah Fields are game breaking players. However, both players were relatively contained by the Rambler defense. As for the battles in the trenches, the Rambler linemen more than held their own against the bigger Dukes.
I am sure that the Dukes left the field last night knowing that they had been in a very hard fought game and, probably, with a greater respect for the Rambler team than they had prior to the game.
The Dukes are to be congratulated for a hard fought victory. Also, I wish them all the luck in their quest for a State Title.
The Ramblers are to be congratulated for an outstanding effort and season. I only wish that some of those who question the Ramblers team and program could have been there to witness how good the team and their program really are. I am confident that their performance, even in a losing cause, would have opened some eyes.
