Tony did not play a stinking violin. He was a fiddle player. Played a mean banjo also. RIP

I thought that would pluck someone off. The guy could play anything with strings attached.

Dokkenball wrote:With all of the tradition, Johnstown and McCort would be a tough one.

It would be hard to pick a starting five based on position, but as far as top 5-10 players, here goes.

McCort:
Dan Pavlick
Dave Pavlick (Duquesne)
Paul Deibert (Wake Forest)
Ed Pavlick (Pitt)
Pete O'Connor
Mike Burgo
Mike Gresick
Craig Instone
Scott Instone

Johnstown:
Ken Horoho
Pat Cummings
Don Maser
Dave Roman, Sr.
Tim McNair
Mark Horner
Geroy Simon
Dan Shipman
Eric Dinyar

I have nothing to say bad about anyone on this list but how many of these basketball players actually went on and played college basketball at Johnstown I think you have to add some names to this list

Devlin Herring
Kurt Hoffman
Marcus Tullis
Ryan Durham
Trey Sharp
Frank Tamara
Paul Schmidt

All of these guys won district championships and Played college basketball

True, hoffman is the leading scorer in school history too, but including Trey and Marcus, thats a little out there. Yes they were great talents with amazing potential, but they did not nearly do good enough or have enough stats to be considered some of the best, I do not think either one of them average more than 14 points a game, heck look at results, if they were 2 of the best they would have been in the state championship their senior year, and it does not matter about college this is highschool.

I did omit a few of those Johnstown names. That may date me a little bit. But the list I put together is quite impressive and all but two of these guys did play college basketball. The other two were busy pursuing professional athletic careers.

Ken Horoho (St. Francis, PA)
Pat Cummings (Cincinatti)(Knicks, Mavericks, among others)
Don Maser (Duquese) Back when Duquesne was very good.
Dave Roman, Sr. (Pitt)
Tim McNair (Youngstown State)
Mark Horner (Youngstown State)
Geroy Simon (Football-Maryland)
Dan Shipman (Waynesburg)
Eric Dinyar (Baseball - Drafted by the Detroit Tigers) Didn't Dinyar play basketball at UPJ after his baseball career?
