Tell us which games are home and away and I'll give you an answer. We know that PSU plays an away non-conference game once in a while. What about these other schools? Makes alot of difference, particularly early in the season, which games are played at home, which games are played on the road.

=========================

Now let's see. We have the out-of-conference schedules taken from each conference "powers", resulting in 24 teams for a total of 98 games to be played.

Since it was imperative for Moldo to know how many out-of-conference games are played at home, because according to his logic, PSU is the only team that won't play on the road out-of-conference games, of these 98 games, 22 of them are away games, for an enormous 22%.

So let's flip that around, 78% of all these out-of-conference games are played at home.

So what objection / qualification are we (meaning you Pitt fans) going to come up with next?

"Well, it matters if the games are played at day / night."

"Well, it depends on the temperature."

"Well, it depends on if the games are played on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, because the number of drunk students might be higher or lower."

"Well, it depends on if the game is televised."

Blah blah blah....

Just accept the fact that PSU has no easier an out-of-conference schedule than anyone else.

Especially Pitt, who lost to Ohio.

NO... Pitt lost to Ohio's defensive back... not running back, but a defensive back...

Thanks for those home and way schedules. Now I want the schedules printed for ALL the teams in the conferences you listed, not just a select few from each conference.

Gee, so of the teams listed, only 22% of the non-conference games will be on the road. Last year PSU played 0% non-conference games on the road.

He took the top teams from the conferences. If you take the BOTTOM teams, its going to make the whole thing even out since there's a set number of teams availible to play. If USC plays Vanderbilt at home, YOU are going to credit Vanderbilt for a road contest. That evens the whole thing out and makes your argument irrelevant. By your judgement, Akron and Temple should be patted on the back for playing at Beaver Stadium.

Your theory is wrong!!! It would even out if we were talking about conference play. And then it wouldn't necessarily because teams in some conferences, like the Big Ten, don't play everyone in the conference each year. BUT we are talking about NON-conference play. Makes a big difference. PLUS, we are talking about SELECT conferences, NOT every conference in the USA. The Big Ten may load up on MAC teams, but the Pac 10 and the Big 12 may play each other alot. Iowa vs Iowa State is alot different than PSU vs Temple.

Just as expected: Moldo and the entire Pitt nation (all 245 strong) are proved wrong and the response: "Well, what about this? What about that?, Let's see who C-USA teams play?, I want to see who Duke plays out-of-conference?!"

You're right about one thing: I did only look at "SELECT" conferences. I looked at only those with an automatic BCS tie in.

And yes, last year PSU did play all out-of-conference games at home. SO FREAKING WHAT. Like that is SO uncommon?? This year: Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Florida State, and Virginia Tech will play all their out-of-conference games at home.

So where is your criticism of those programs??

Oh, and the whole Iowa vs. Iowa state thing and how that is different from PSU vs. Temple, etc. Iowa vs. Iowa State, like Florida State vs. Florida, and WVU vs. Marshall, are mandated games from their respective state governments, and automatically rotate back and forth.

Just can't accept that fact that PSU plays no easier an out-of-conference schedule than any other top team. WAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Since Moldo, and the entire Pitt nation (all 245 strong, unless you count Beano Cook and Chico Harlan, and his family in flight from the INS, raising the count of the Pitt nation to 7,548) requested what those teams at the "bottom" of the ladder schedule for out-of-conference-games, lets have a look, shall we?

2006 Out-of-Conference Schedules for BCS Conference Last Place Teams.

ACC:

Duke (costal): Richmond (H), Alabama (A) Vanderbilt (H), Navy (H)

Wake Forest (atlantic): Syracuse (H), UConn (A), Liberty (H), Mississippi (A).

Big 12:

Kansas State (north): Ill. State (H), Fl. Atlantic (H), Marshall (H), Louisville (H).

Ok. State (south): Missouri State (H), Ark. State (A), Fla. Atlantic (H), Houston (A).

Big East:

Syracuse: Wake Forest (A), Iowa (H), Miami Oh. (H), Wyoming (H)

Big Ten:

Illinois: E. Illinois (H), Rutgers (A), Syracuse (H)

Pac 10:

Washington: San Jose State (H), Oklahoma (A), Fresno State (H)

SEC:

Kentucky (east): Louisville (A), TX. State (H), Cent. Michigan (H), La-Monroe (H).

Mississippi (west): Memphis (H), Missouri (A), Wake Forest (H), Northwestern State (H).

=============================

So, if we take the "bottom feeders" of these BCS conferences, and some of them are annual, like Duke, Wake, Kentucky, etc. we have a total of 34 out-of-conference games to be played in 2006.

Of those 34 out-of-conference games, a wopping 10 of them are on the road.

10 / 34 = .29

29% of the out-of-conference games of the BCS conference "bottom teams" are played on the road.

So lets flip that around for those Pitt math grads.

71% of the out-of-conference games by BCS conference "bottom feeder" teams are played at home.

Now, lets compare. The top teams in those conferences, play 78% of their out-of-conference games at home. The bottom teams in those conferences play 71% of their out-of-conference games at home.

What can we conclude?

You Pitt fans who claim that PSU plays a much easier out-of-conference schedule than anyone else are idiots (real shocker).

If you would like me to do an unequal variance two-sample t-test to show that given the sample size, that the difference between 71% and 78% is not significant, then so be it. I have to demonstrate that technique to my graduate students every fall when I teach research methods.

Hey, I thanked PItt for a wonderful night of partying in Athens last fall, I can thank you Pitt fans now (Moldo and Vman) for giving me a great example to use this fall in class.

But what excuse will we be raised next???

"Oh, well we at Pitt have upgraded our schedule for the 2012-2014 seasons."

"Oh, Penn State plays all its out-of-conference games at home."

"Oh, Rene Portland hates lesbians."

"Oh, Paterno hates Pitt and won't play us."

"Oh, Pitt beat PSU the last time we played them."

"Oh, Bostick picked Pitt, so PSU is at a loss."

"Oh, Wanny has great NFL connections, and will dominate the WPIAL."

"Oh, PSU only beat Florida State by a field goal."

BLAH BLAH BLAH......
