vman.... I respectfully disagree. The inadvertant whistle did have a bearing on the game. The Tyrone defender intercepted the ball at approximately Bishop McCort's 30-yard line. Instead of 1st and 10 from the BM 30 Tyrone ended up with 1st and 10 from within their own 40 yard line. Everyone knows how turnovers can change the momentum of a game. Who knows what momentum Tyrone would have had if the interception would have held up. I am not saying this one play in itself determined the outcome of the game, but I am sure it certainly had a bearing on it.

Also, please don't take this post as anything other than what it is, my opinion about one play of a fantastic high school football game. It is not my intent to diminish in any capacity the achievement of either of these two fine teams. Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding game!

Amused, respect your opinion & as a McCort fan I've already stated my admiration of Tyrone's effort & gritiness but I do disagree with your assumption that in the end the ball was intercepted. To reset play the ball was thrown downfield & hit a foot - came back towards line of scrimmage and a Tyrone defender dove @ ball as it was about to hit turf....now from my vantage point it looked like he clearly dove on top of ball & not one ref came in to mark it, as if it had been intercepted or signaled interception.

Don't know if your cable carrier has it but the game will be replayed tonite, in Jtwn. area.... if time allows I'll tape game & check view/angle of play in question.

From what i have seen the past three weeks the playoff officials are a joke. First the Tyrone FH game was awful i have never seen anything like that, second McCort and PO again extremely bad, and finally this game. As a McCort fan from what i saw the ball was picked, but did it have a bearing on the game maybe. But besides that one call the spots and just general routine of the game was very sloppy and very unprofessional. I hope to see some actual officiating on Friday night up at the rock because thus far has been ridiculous.

Gee Ham...I'd think you'd have better things to worry about considering the rumor is that Cheasnut Ridge is now the best football program in District 5 AA.

vman,

If for no other reason than to satisfy my curiousity, did you tape the replay and was it or was it not an interception?

Amused, did tape game & there actually was a good camera angle to view that play, although not a close-up shot....after the ball apparently hit the foot of the BM receiver it did in fact go backward in air & a Tyrone defender tried to catch the ball.... it went off him & towards the turf... another Tyrone defender did in fact dive at ball & there is no evidence/look that he caught it before he was 'over' the ball; it honestly appears ball hit turf when kid jumped on it. It was what it was, an inadvertant whistle & although BM should have been punting, (by rule) they got another play & as previously noted, ended up punting. I was wrong about one prior observation, however: although no officials signaled interception, in the following confusion, one did put his foot @ the point where the ball was covered by the Tyrone player, as if to mark the play there.

Now, & this is not sour grapes by any means (I still maintain game was decided between the lines) but there were several big calls that went against BM.....2 were late hits/out-of-bounds calls, on Tyrone's sideline. On one between Tyrone's 40 & 50, #52 clearly hit ballcarrier in bounds & simply followed thru with tackle, no rough stuff or throwing the kid after being out-of-bounds....replayed several times & no ifs ands or buts, runner is in bounds when hit (Tyrone scored on this drive)! There was another 15 yrder near the 20 of BM when 2 BM defenders pushed @ the runner on sideline (never tackled him).... now replayed this several times & hard to tell but one foot is definitely in & it's difficult to see if the other is in or touching the sideline...very shaky call, @ best (Tyrone also scored on this drive)! . And lastly, as BM was moving on the ground in 4th Qtr., a fumble was called on S Lewis....played this in slo-mo & could pause when ball finally came out - no fumble should have been called - both knees were clearly already down.
