Everyone is suposed to have their own relationship with GOD

everyone should have a relationship with God definitly, but if you dont go to church or youth group then do you really learn about him in every day life. when religion is banned in schools and they want to take away the 10 commandments from the supreme court. you have to ask yourself do you really learn about him, for your relationship to grow with him? because i know that most people don't actually sit down for hours and reads every word in the bible if they dont go to church or classes.

Count, I gave you more credit than that. First, I did not disagree with freak, but he pointed out a mistake that I had made. Are you only a part of groups that make no mistakes and have no disagreements, especially about things that happened over 1500 years ago?

I talked with a theology professor over Easter about this and freak is right that the Nicean council did not confirm the canon but it was confirmed at a later council. There was not much confirmation to do because the church was already in agreement about almost every book. The gospels that have recently come into questions (such as those of Judas and Thomas) were not really considered and used by the early church because they did not date to the first century. The Nicean council was mainly a debate about the divinity of Jesus and the church coming to a united view about this. There was not really debate about whether Jesus was divine, but rather about to what extent he was divine.

I think everyone does have their own relationship with God, but I am not sure what that has to do with disagreements about church history. Most Christians know very little about church history because it has little to do with Christian faith. However, since the question was brought up about how the Bible was put together, it has become relevant to our discussion. The bottom line is that the books of the Bible are well-preserved accounts from first-hand or second-hand witnesses of Jesus death and resurrection.

I know a lot of people who Go to church and don't read the Bible. In fact, most people who do go to church go out of habit, not because they want to learn something new. And sure those who do go learn from a preacher (who may or may not be qualified) but how much can you learn if they just tell you the same things over and over and over...like the Christmas story, or Easter.
On the other hand, I also know at least 1 person who did sit down to read the Bible just to learn about the faith (I don't think he read every word) and still he is not a Christian.

If reading a book is enough to learn, then why are there teachers and professors? You need the guidance of a preacher, a youth pastor, etc to help understand what you are reading. The Bible can be hard to understand to so degree. Can you imagine trying to learn organic chemistry or math with a book alone; without the help of someone to explain it better than just reading and digesting?

Teachers and Professors have been taught exact truths things that for the most part can be proven, yes there are some subjects that aren't facts like evolution, but they don't teach those as facts. On the other hand preachers, youth pastors, etc... are teaching things that cannot be prove as exact truths. And I know you think the bible and the "words of God" are exact truths...but they are not and you will never convince me otherwise.

but that's not the point... every religion teaches like it's truth... so how is Christianity different?? because it is truth.... Pilate asked Jesus "what is truth"... and the truth was standing right in front of him... Jesus said he was the way, the truth and the life.... that's very exclusive... he doesn't say, me and buddha... it's just I AM.... but then, you don't believe in Jesus....
