Large AAAA schools is not the way to go, but we do not live in the times of the horse and buggy anymore. Schools like Shanksville and Turkeyfoot that don't even have 30 kids in class are the ones that need consolidated. There is entirely to many small A schools in this state and that is the real strain on state funding. When you look at the budget it takes to run these small schools from Building maintenance to the administrators and yes the teachers that have 5-10 kids in a class, it is very easy as a tax payer to feel that the real reason that these small schools fight so hard against consolidating is to protect jobs. I find it hard to disagree that schools that have 200-250 in a class offer the best of both worlds when it comes to academics and what you can offer extracurricular.

I like Crimson's plan for consolidation in the Greater Johnstown area. Makes perfect sense.

And as far as mergers are concerned, it looks like area schools are just too bone headed to see the benefits of merging and the only thing that will cause them to get off their lazy chair is if the state puts a boot up their cheeks.
Now for the immediate concern:
The PIAA requires all schools to have their latest male/female enrollment numbers sent in by tomorrow. That makes it necessary for schools to know if they are co-oping or dropping their team next year. Have decisions been made public on what they (notably Rockwood and Ferndale) are going to do, or have they devised a scheme to keep dragging their misery out?
