Re: Week 8 Scores
Conemaugh Township kept in their starters down 49-6 with eight minutes left and scored a TD against Portage's JV then forced a Portage JV 3 and out with three minutes left before they removed their starters. But, no one on here is complaining about that...

Re: Week 8 Scores
I agree that no one should be blaming stull for being exceptional last night. Or even the FH defense. The whole point I'm trying to make is that when the coach that's going to obviously be the victor lets off the gas that's usually a sign to the other coach. And the sign is not to keep you starters in and try to get one more touchdown so maybe it won't look as bad. Sorry Don think your best days are behind you. And if you knew what somerset had you would know the best years are just around the corner.

Re: Week 8 Scores
I agree with you RealBleacherCoach, if there is no chance for a comeback and either team's backups are in, the other team should put in theirs.

....Classsss. Classss, SHUT UPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you.
....It's time for Football Substituting 101: When to bring in your subs
....1) If you are losing badly late in the game, and decide to wave the "white flag" and bring in your second stringers, the team in the lead should reciprocate, as the losing team has surrendered. After all, if you are beating up their varsity, what are you going to do against their JV's.
....2) If a team, though, is winning handily late in the game, the winning coach has the purogative to insert his second string ANY TIME he feels his lead is secure and has the game in hand. The team that is losing, however, is under NO obligation to pull his first team players. The losing coach may see some benefit of leaving in his starters, something that will help his team somewhere down the line. The winning coach should NOT dictate to the losing coach when he should insert his players into the game. If the winning coach makes a misjudgment with his attempt to bring in the second team, that is HIS fault, and not the fault of the other team or coach.
....If the Somerset coach would have adhered to these simple guidelines last night, he would not have looked foolish when he had to bring his starters back into the game and rescue his second stringers. This, in my opinion, caused the Somerset coach to run up the score. He was hell bent on showing everybody that he had the best team (even though his team was having their worst game of the year, from what I hear). His miscalculation about when to insert his JV's basically tarnished a great night for Somerset, who finally snapped a long losing streak to the Rangers. I'm sure he lost some respect from the Ranger coaches and players after the way the game ended. Take a knee and end it, anytime you can.

Re: Week 8 Scores
To be honest he didn't have to show anyone anything. I think everyone could see the better team. Somerset had 4 turnovers I believe in the first half and was down 8-7 at half then proceeded to outscore their opponents 25-8 after they cleaned it up a little bit. What good is it to leave your starters in when the other team puts in the back ups? Maybe give them a little confidence that they can actually score on a JV team? Monday-thursday are for practice. If the winning coach shuts it down that late then the losing team should also. If it was me I would have scored again instead of kneeing the ball when we had it at the 15 with 40 seconds left. Like I said Bailey I guess just needed something to sleep better at night.
Re: Week 8 Scores
Except for in the district championship game when you are up by 44 and there are 12 seconds left. I still can't believe that one.El-Moldo wrote:....Take a knee and end it, anytime you can.
Re: Week 8 Scores
Lets see what the outcome is Monday, when TRUE JV's play TRUE JV, in Sidman. That will be next years' varsities, right? Except for the walking wounded. Wait, there will likely be homer refs there. On a side note, why the QB switch in the second half? I thought the paper said Barnes was so terrific.
Maybe since Stull took over in the second half, Barnes gets to 'shine' Monday as JV Qb? And where was Boyer the first half?
It ain't over until it's over.
