I did the broadcast of this game for our local ESPN station last night, so a few takeaways:

1) Jackson Daugherty is a stud receiver. Obviously, Tutino is a great possession receiver with good breakaway speed for them, but it was clear that Collin Smith and Daugherty had a great rapport and were quite the tandem all night.

2) Collin Smith recovered nicely from two first-half picks and showed why he's been so efficient all year. It's a luxury to have someone as talented and smart as he is as your QB.

3) Ligonier Valley's team speed on defense was something that was tough for Dunmore to overcome. One of the key plays of the game was Colin Holmes trying to reverse fields and getting chased down, fumbling the football and giving LV a chance to grab the lead late in the 1st half. Holmes is used to running away from defenders on that kind of play. LV made sure it didn't happen.

4) It was interesting to see the LV crowd in front of us reacting to Dunmore taking the lead at 13-10. All the credit in the world to the Rams for how they responded, with 29 straight points. Correct me if I'm wrong, but was that the first time they trailed all season? The fans certainly reacted that way. You could hear a pin drop on the LV sideline after that Bucks' TD pass.

5) Dunmore did what Dunmore couldn't do, they incurred numerous self-inflicted penalties that put them behind the sticks, when their offense was grabbing 3-4 yards per play. It's a credit to a very tough, very good LV defense, but Dunmore didn't do themselves any favors.

6) All the credit in the world to LV. They adjusted to Dunmore's defensive strategy, started taking the underneath routes that the Bucks were giving up, and using their quick-strike passes to move the ball down the field. Their defense was stout where they needed to be, made big plays and took advantage of the Holmes fumble that seems to loom pretty large for Dunmore.

7) Should be an awesome game between LV and Southern Columbia. A ton of speed and size flying around that football field. Good luck the rest of the way!

I agree with Touchdown Tom and his analysis. I was at the game and LV showed that they had some inner toughness they might even knew they had. All year they had just used their superior athleticism to destroy people, but last night they stood toe-to-toe with an equally talented team and they came out on top. It was a good game to watch.  Good Luck Rams next week.

Nice objective analysis TDTom.

I was standing next to the fence line at the 10 on the LV side, entrance end. Daugherty's catch there was the best reception I have ever seen at any level - the height he had to jump, the angle of making the catch, and then the firm planting of a toe at the last possible second all combined to make a truly incredible athletic feat.

And regarding Dunmore - what a group of tough, athletic players. And some classy fans who I spoke to before and after the game. All in all, a fantastic experience for LV to play a team and program of that caliber and come out on top. I wish Dunmore continued success next season until we would meet again.

I've been watching film of LV and SC for their upcoming game and for the most part I would say at the receiver position I have been most impressed by the Sophomore Tutino. Daugherty is a great wideout for LV but without Tutino opening the field up for him  he more than likely does not have all this success. Tutino seems to be the more Athletic of the two based off of film and one game I have attended (LV vs. Bishop Mccort). Most of Daugherty's big plays on film came when he was wide-open and a lot of Tutino's big plays have been him making miraculous catches, and him turning short gains into long gains. The first miraculous catch I have seen out of Daugherty was vs. Dunmore where he made an amazing touchdown grab diving up and backwards for the catch. Daugherty had a great game vs Dunmore but I am more impressed with Tutino. If Daugherty is a stud receiver then Tutino is for sure one as well. Not often do you see two very talented receivers on a small AA highschool football team.
