3. District 5 A championship
I would rank them in that order because in recent years District 6 has the three Bishops, the heritage, good ICC teams/Bellwood, and until this year, the best of the Westpac in Portage.
I feel that a true westpac conference title (not co champs) trumps the District 5 title in prestige for the years Portage won the conference. It's kind of a shame that is that way but I think alot of people see it the same way as me.
I think the westpac also get dissed because of District 5's credibility in the two football classes they have. A and AA. They have two or three AA teams and either let them play for a championship or award them one. (D6 does this for AAA and i think it is a joke also). They also would hand out class A championships when the class A playoffs were combined between District 5 and 6. In single A, almost every team makes the playoffs or at least has a chance to with 4 wins. I think D6 made the right decision to cut it down to 12 class A teams. I don't think more than half of the teams should be in the playoffs.
I would rather win D6 just because the D5 winner plays usually the best team in the state 1st round of state playoffs every year and never has a chance at all in advancing.
As far as better credibility, D6 of course. You have 4 conferences in 1 district while D5 has 2.

D6 easy, you only have to win like 1 game to win the 5A championship then you go out and get spanked... I dont even remember who won 5A last year.
if I recall correctly 6 plays east who holds Steelton Highspire and Southern Columbia... those teams have dominated for quite sometime
and ummmm westpac championship??? what!!!

You're definitely right there. That however is not my point. Never did I once say anything about ICC, Westpac, or the past 13 years. I'm talking about 2010 NB/CT comparison. Who does CT have on the line that is anywhere near as good as Hixson, Sollenberger, and Suter? I mean, those are 3 of the toughest kids in the entire district all on the same line. I know this isn't wrestling, but Hixson, D. Sollenberger, and RB Albright are all D5 champs, and Suter is a state qualifier. I don't think CT has anyone that can match that kind of toughness.
[That's a pretty poor arguement considering Chestnut Ridge gives up 157.1 yards on the ground and 17 points per game compared to Northern Bedford's 43.9 and 9.5. That's right, NB's defense is giving up 43.9 rushing yards per game. Vinnie Coy has over 1,000 yards and getting 11.5 a clip, didn't do squat against NB. Mark my words Byers will not sniff 100 yards if they play NB. I would be far more worried about Berlin and Windber's running game than Townships.[/quote]
well holsopple 6'0 270, shaw 6'0 260, and gindlesperger 6'1 245 have done quite well, i have not seen nbc play so i would not make a statement that they are head and shoulders above any team that i have not seen, i will leave that to you. byers is not the only weapon, why dont you check out passing t.d's stats. c.t has 1800 yds rushing and 900 yds passing so yes they run more then they pass. and yes i wish they would have played ridge also, point is nbc has 4 teams with 3 or more wins they have played as c.t has played 6 with 3 or more wins numbers dont mean anything so keep dissing c.t.... c.t beat windber 28-6 but you go ahead and be far more worried about windber.

So the word i've been informed to is that the LOSER of the Mo Valley vs Southern Huntington game won't be entering the playoffs at 4 - 5. I've been told that both coaches have already said this to outside sources. Dunno if its 100% true, but from the source i got it from and the people he's connected/involved with i'd say its a good bet. This would be an interesting wrench into the playoff seeding eh?

That is a very interesting point GreenMachine and it has a lot of ramifications. First, when District 6 says it is taking the top 12 in Class A, does that mean it will take #13, #14, etc. if any of the top 12 decline to participate? Or will the field shrink if any in the top 12 decline?
Marion Center, Northern Cambria, and Blacklick Valley are all 3 - 5 and the best they can finish is 4 - 5: a losing record. Many school districts have policies that only 0.500 or better teams can go the playoffs. And given what you say about SH-MV, that could mean only ten teams will go to the playoffs - only the teams with winning records.
And if that is the case, then #5 and #6 could get byes. And if that is the case, that will affect the power point potential for any Class AA team that beat an A team that gets a bye. The first round of the playoffs count as "opponent wins" for the calculation of AA power points. But if the opponent you beat doesn't play that week - a bye or their season over - you would have no power points to potentially get.

Confirmation in the Huntingdon Daily News today that Southern Huntingdon will not enter the playoffs if they don't win on Friday.

from the indiana gazette's website.
seems like the 12 team playoff may be down to 10 teams. district 6 may have made a mistake going from 16 to 12 teams. just think of the revenue they will loose from the two less games this weekend.
Another area team that seemingly had a chance to qualify for the postseason was Marion Center, but even if the Stingers finish the season ranked in the top 12, they’re going to decline a playoff invitation, coach Dave Malicky said.
“That’s our school’s policy. We don’t go to the playoffs with a losing record,” he said. “I can’t go against my school board.”

Well with these teams now cofirming they won't enter the playoffs with losing records, I'm gonna go ahead and say that after Blacklick Valley beats Shade this weekend they'll be entering the playoffs at 4 - 5 for sure cause i know for a fact they don't have any "school policy" on not entering the playoffs with a losing record. Few years back they used to enter the basketball playoffs every year with 7 - 15 records, give or take a loss or a win.
So who will will take the other possible open spot? Will it stay vacant and an extra team get a bye? It should be interesting to see how it all plays out thats for sure.

There's no minimum win policy this year per the district, and BG isn't bashful about putting teams in the playoffs with a less than .500 record. I think in the end that only 11 will now enter the playoffs instead of 12.
