....It's time for Football Substituting 101: When to bring in your subs
....1) If you are losing badly late in the game, and decide to wave the "white flag" and bring in your second stringers, the team in the lead should reciprocate, as the losing team has surrendered. After all, if you are beating up their varsity, what are you going to do against their JV's.
....2) If a team, though, is winning handily late in the game, the winning coach has the purogative to insert his second string ANY TIME he feels his lead is secure and has the game in hand. The team that is losing, however, is under NO obligation to pull his first team players. The losing coach may see some benefit of leaving in his starters, something that will help his team somewhere down the line. The winning coach should NOT dictate to the losing coach when he should insert his players into the game. If the winning coach makes a misjudgment with his attempt to bring in the second team, that is HIS fault, and not the fault of the other team or coach.
....If the Somerset coach would have adhered to these simple guidelines last night, he would not have looked foolish when he had to bring his starters back into the game and rescue his second stringers. This, in my opinion, caused the Somerset coach to run up the score. He was hell bent on showing everybody that he had the best team (even though his team was having their worst game of the year, from what I hear). His miscalculation about when to insert his JV's basically tarnished a great night for Somerset, who finally snapped a long losing streak to the Rangers. I'm sure he lost some respect from the Ranger coaches and players after the way the game ended. Take a knee and end it, anytime you can.

The world according to Moldy is a very strange one indeed. The losing coach can do no wrong and the winning coach has to respond in a certain way or it is consider poor sportsmanship? I hope you can remember this when the pendulum swings back for FH.

Barnes is a sophmore that got thrown into there after stull went down. He won the team like 3 games. Almost pulling one off at Richland if you forgot aboutt that. So yeah he is pretty dang terrific. He had a bad night. Young guys make mistakes. They went with veteran leadership with stull. I HIGHLY doubt barnes plays monday night and as for boyer.. he plays almost every snap on defense. He is also a big boy. If they wanted him to play every snap we would have to get an oxygen tank for the kid. Truth is boyer is used in short yardage plays and they have enough athletes that they dony need to play him both sides all game. And I doubt monday with be any indication of what's to come. A lot of the somerset starters are underclassmen.

Want to ask Richland_Fan, if the Rams are ahead by a large margin in the 4th quarter, and they bring in the second string, should the team they are beating up at the time bring in their 2nd string too?

Losing team should sub first. Throw in the white towel. If they don't, winning team does not have to sub. Winning team will sub however to prevent injuries. If winning team subs first, losing team should sub. They often do not because they think they can score and the final won't look as bad. If winning team subs first and losing team does not, and the game get close enough to bring starters back in, then next year winning team can keep starters in and run up score.

Idc if forest hills didn't have 2nd team in. Their 1st team let back ups score on them. That means a lot to the back ups of Somerset, and I bet some were seniors sho never got playing time against fh. Stop complaining moldy and manfred

No matter what side I am on, if I feel the game is already decided then I'm getting my younger players into the game. I'm always looking ahead and anytime I could get the underclassman some game experience, I'm taking it. A lot of the coaches act as if those boys on the bench will never be needed in the years to come. Get them some PT... you'll benefit down the road.

Left (wing) coast boy: Get the facts straight. FH scored against the Somerset second string, then the Eagles Coach got worried, and brought his FIRST team back in! It was the Eagle FIRST team offense that closed out the scoring against most of the Ranger first team D. Which just happened to be second stringers until so many starters got hurt. TAPP's very last sentence NAILED it!

Up by 9 with 1:30 to go. No one was worried. He was just proving a point on Baileys lack of class. You know if the defense just would have stopped them we wouldn't be having this conversation.
