i want to know how a jump off between m. young and t. young gets t. young to ty for second. I know the nbc kid also tied with them but he went out again at 12 feet and both youngs went on to clear 12-3. that should have made t young the second place. I also heard that he didn't get the ribbon for second that went to the nbc jumper and t. young got the third place ribbon.

i don't understand the ribbon thing there but thats just how it is with jump offs whoever wins wins but the other people in it tie no matter what!

but they should change that cuz i agree t young def was ahead!

I think they messed up the pole vault. I thought any heights you reach in a jump off still count as your best effort.

not if you scratch at a lower height first....

clear 12'
scratch 12'6''
jumpoff clear 12'
jumpoff clear 12'3''
jumpoff scratch 12'6''

your clearing final height would still only be 12'

hafta get out the rule book for this one

That is not true PEP. If you are in a jump off, your best effort should count. If your school record is 12'3" and you clear 12'6" in a jump off, even though you only cleared 12'0 in the competition, you should be credited the record.

Here is where it gets tricky. After looking at the rule book, it does appear it could be interpreted two ways.

One part of the rules says..."in the vertical jumping events, a competitor shall be credited with his/her best achievement if it occurs in a jump off for first place.

Another part says that "if a tie concerns any place than first, the competitors shall be awarded the same place.

The officials chose the latter, flipped a coin to see who got the 2nd and 3rd place awards.

Although I'm not an official, common sense would say the first rule is more applicable in this case. If there are any officials out there, please clarify this. It's an interesting situation.
