Back in the day, Opening Day in Major League baseball was looked forword to like the first day of the NCAA tournament. Instead, MLB decides it will be a good idea to start their season in Japan at 6 o'clock in the morning. For the last few years, each year is started with this retarded plan. This is the dumbest thing of the Selig era. Here are several problems with this:

-Unless you wanna set your alarm for 6 am you miss the first 3 games of the season
-Teams have to give up a home series and 3 games of profit off gates
-Baseball is an American pastime
-The season is long and grueling as it is why have players get worn down early having to deal with passports, extensive travel, different social structures, and food that is not what the players bodies are used to
-Players bodies also feel like it is 6 am
-These games are a week before everyone else's opening day's, other teams are still in Spring Training
-They do gay little dances before the game and treat it like the Grand Ole' Opera
-They get series like the Yankees/Devil Rays and now this year Red Sox/A's that no one gives a rats a$$ about. If your gonna do this at least get a Cubs/Cards, Dodgers/Giants, Sox/Yanks rivalry to give American's any reason at all to get up before the Rooster to watch a game half way around the world

What happened to the day where the Cincinatti Reds started the baseball season at 1 pm and most all teams are playing within the next few hours? This completely took away the tradition of opening day.

It's only two games, but I do agree. It does not make a lot of sense. Also, it allows teams to totally regroup their pitching staff because they get so many days off. If the Red Sox wanted to, Dice-K could pitch again in their next game. He would even have a few days extra rest. The real opening day to me is Monday. This is just like a teaser that no one gets to watch unless you want to see the replay.

Dice-K is the scheduled starter for Tuesday.

It's all about the moneys.

Every sport is doing this now and it will only become more prominent. The NBA is talking about having two teams in Europe. The NFL played a regular season game in England. The English Premier League is probably going to add a 39th game to their schedule to be played overseas and one of the spots is the US. This is the result of globalization. Get used to it.

You think that this is bad? I can't even imagine what you local yokels will be crying about when the Dollar merges with the Euro. It's gonna be called the Aeuro (spelling?) and it fast on its way, folks. I dont see it as a bad thing. Think of how much stronger the economies will get of all those industrialized nations. And when your daughter says she wants to go to Europe after HS for a trip with her friends, it wont cost anywhere NEAR as much as now. Our dollar is worth .65 in Europe. One-world government will coming soon, folks, and everyday it makes a little more progress. You are either on board, or else you are in the way.

Pretty much the only thing that keeps these leagues from playing MORE games overseas is the expenses. With combined currency with Europe, they'll be teams in Europe in probably 10-15 years.

Good post ancient. I hope all eventually leads to what you are talking about, and that there will be Aeuro. I think it'd be cool to back in the day (just throwing names, not actual reality) have Ron Burgundy, Russia's Vladimir Putin, JFK, Deng Xiaoping (China), Ghandi, Takeo Miki (Japan), and Fidel Castro sitting in a board room discussing "planet earths" economy and habitual state.

It's only going to get worse for the have-nots. Better start doing more overtime so your kid can go to college and find a niche in the Haves column someplace. There is more to it than expenses. The players do not want to be in another country playing. They do not want to be playing at 6 AM United States Standard time. Boston did not even want to go if their coaches did not get paid a bonus or was it because they actually just did not want to go? You are rewarded for winning the World Series by going to Japan? It makes no sense. Send the Pirates and Marlins over there. The crowd will be just as big and no one will care.
