EVE 15 - NB 0
Tough, hard fought football game...
In the first half at 0-0, Eve is in good position to score, but safety Marshall Clapper makes an outstanding play on Swindell's pass to Waltman and picks it off for a touchback. On the very next play, NB's Logan Zimmerman goes off right tackle, loses his balance, regains his feet and goes 80 yards for a TD only to have it called back by a holding call. (After watching on tape there is no way this was holding, but it is what it is for NB). The teams trade possessions back and forth for a while and then late in the half Everett's Millen goes off left tackle for 18 yards. Everett converts on a nice 2 pt pass and goes up 8-0. In the second half, NB couldn't get out of its own end of the field. Everett had great starting field position and the defense bent several times.... When it looked like Everett might put NB away, Clapper AGAIN picked off a pass in the endzone on another outstanding play. NB couldn't get anything going though and they couldn't hold off the Warriors any more. Everett put another one in the endzone to set the final tally at 15-0. I thought it was just a hard hitting good old-fashioned rivalry game.
The sad note of the night came for senior Billy Riley. He left the game on the opening kickoff after getting hit in the side of his knee by a lineman. Riley didn't play the entire game and this was a huge blow to NB as he was an all stater last year as a junior. Hopefully he gets good news at the doctor next week..... Everett is now in very good position to end up with a record something like 7-2.
