McCort Stomps the Mustangs

McCort stomps the 12-0 mustangs.

The mustangs stomped D-5 champ Windber in the season. (Windber is still alive in the State Playoffs thanks to a bye week.)

Somethings not right with the PIAA system. After attending the game tonight in the frigid weather. I have a few observations.

McCorts size, speed, and special teams were dominate. It looked like a college team out there playing against portage. Definitely a Bluechip recruiting class. A 40 yard field goal had plenty of distance to spare. As long as McCort is in Single A, the other teams in single A except for Bellwood Antis might as well opt out of the playoffs. I don't know how any single A schools can compete with a school with no borders from which to draw their students from.

A coop school has to add the enrollment of students from each school even if only a few students are athletes, yet a private school gets to pick and choose who to admit and only has to count the students they accept. This is a Sad day for D-6 football.

Maybe it would be more realistic for the other single A schools to play up in the playoffs in AA or AAA rather than stay in single A and worry about getting slaughtered by these all-star teams.

tough loss for Portage....I mean geeez Lowry had 2 TD's and Seidel had 3 both coming from OMOS area school district and that kicker with the distance coming from St. Benedict's town.

well said crazy and wait now that i think of it schrey was also an OMOS rebel and yes bako their right tackle is a bennies prospect and belskey is from st clements i can go on and on....reynolds-st pats...mcananey-omos...barbin-omos... 8)

I've said it before. McCort isn't breaking any rules or laws. The PIAA permits this to happen. McCort is nothing compared to the Private Schools and the "new" Philly charter schools that pop up every year. Come to the AA state track meet and you'll see what I mean.

There is one thing D6 schools can do as a protest. When matched against McCort in the playoffs instead of playing them just forfeit the game under protest. That will bring some attention to the problem and wake up the abysmal PIAA.

what do u mean no teams can stick with them??? McCort isnt God, bellwood stuck it to us most of the game and same with richland and guilfoyle. So stop acting like mccort is so dang good and noone can beat them because that is not true. They win because of great coaching, great lineman, and great execution

No doubt, McCort took it to our Mustangs last night. They played great in all 3 aspects of the football game...offense, defense, and special teams.

However, I truly believe Portage was a bit in awe of the whole "District Championship" spectacle...Mansion Park, turf, and all the media fanfare leading up to the game. The Mustangs have never been there, McCort has, and it showed.

Not diminishing McCort's dominance last night, but Portage just wasn't the same team that got them to the District Championship. One glaring weakness last night, that has been a mainstay of the Portage defense all season, tackling. The Mustangs were awful. Yes, McCort's speed was evident, but Portage missed many, many tackles at the line of scrimmage. This never happened during the season...and I don't care who you are playing, a tackle is a tackle. Maybe the cold air affected Portage a bit more, you just don't move as well in 20 degree weather.

The first drive of the game was huge for McCort. Facing a 3rd and something, ?Lowry? made an athletic play on a prayer of a throw setting up McCort deep inside Portage territory. If that ball is intercepted like it should have been...who knows...the Mustangs might have used that momentum and drove the field for the first score of the game. It could have made things more interesting anyway.

Domonkos deserves the Number One Star for the game. Besides excelling on offense, his kicks pinned Portage deep all night. The Mustang offense continuously saw acres and acres of carpet in front of them.

A few more ramblings...the Portage band easily covered the spread...(-35) vs. the McCort band. Did McCort even have a band? And, it was great to see, and be apart of, the huge Mustang contingent of fans! Support for the Mustangs was at least 3 to 1 over McCort. And this wasn't just the town of Portage, I counted at least 10 different Varsity jackets rooting on the Kelly Green and White.

To the McCort allegiance...good luck vs. Steel High...you dropped down to Single A for this exact reason, to have a chance at advancing, feel proud! Sorry though...the Franklin St./Southmont Blvd. hangover your battling now...ain't nothin' compared to the hangover your Crushers will be feelin' come Saturday a.m.
