Using BCS rankings...

On Dec 24th 2:30 PM at the Super Dome in New Orleans the "Play in Bowl" would be played with #8 PSU playing #9 Boise State. Winner to face #1 Oklahoma.

On New Years Day! Ulitmate BCS Bowl Day!

Orange Bowl 11:00 AM Miami #2 Florida v. #7 Texas Tech

Sugar Bowl 2:00 PM Atlanta #3 Texas v. #6 Utah

Rose Bowl 5:00 PM Pasadena #4 Alabama v. #5 USC

Fiesta Bowl 8:00 PM Phoenix #1 Oklahoma v. winner of "Play-in Bowl"

All winners advance to Phoenix for the BCS Final Four games the next week on Jan. 8th.

The final four winners play on Jan. 15th in the BCS title game at the same location.

This scenario adds only one week to the season and two extra games. What do you guys think?

Obviously sites would rotate to host the final four/title bowl games just as is the case with March Madness.

i think it's an interesting scenario... here's what i'd do if i were in charge

make all teams play 12 games unless they're in one of those conferences that have a championship, in which case they'd play 11 games + 1

16 team playoff. why 16? that way every conference gets one team into the playoff regardless of whether they're a "major" conference or not

that takes care of 11 of the 16 spots, then take the BCS ratings and just line everyone up 1-16 with the additional 5 teams being "at-large bids" straight from the computer rankings. play it out and you're done... you've got a true championship where any team has a chance at it (utah and boise st. have no chance at it despite going undefeated, with this system they have a chance)

the rest of the bowls can still occur, but there really isn't a need for them if the playoff is adopted. a lot of them are like the NIT anyways, you're only interested if your team is in it.
