Crosby to miss fourth straight start, Satan put on waivers

TAMPA,. Fla. -- Sidney Crosby will miss his fourth consecutive game tonight when the Penguins play the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has been bothered for more than a week by a sore left groin.

"It just takes time," the center and team captain said after a long morning skate. "Obviously, it's not easy being patient this time of year. It's the same story -- you go to bed every night hoping that it gets a little better."

In addition, the Penguins placed winger Miroslav Satan on waivers, although Satan is expected to play tonight. Teams have until noon tomorrow to claim him. Satan, signed as a free agent last summer, has a goal in each of the past two games and 17 overall this season but has been inconsistent.

Also, forward Bill Thomas cleared waivers and is remaining with the Penguins.

okay folks what is up here?? No problem resting Sid; not the issue here (anyone ever had a groin tweak knows it takes time) & we do not wish to aggravate that injury. Now, I am not a GM & do not know the intricacies of the NHL labor dealings but my assumption is the Pens put Satan on waivers to see if there are any 'biters'/interested parties. MS has played better recently & maybe Shero is thinking he can get something for the sniper while he is being productive. i would be happy to dump his salary & get another feisty/physical 2nd or 3rd line winger w/ some scoring touch! Don't think Mr Shero is done wheeling & dealing.

Thinking about this (and again, not sure of waiver transactions in the NHL) I believe the Pens are simply hoping Satan is picked up/claimed by another team. Satan signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Penguins & the NHL trade deadline expires Wednesday at 3 p.m. Removing Satan's salary from their against-cap tally could provide the Penguins enough space to land an even higher-priced player. Currently, they are about about $4 million under the cap, though that does not include injured defenseman Philippe Boucher's $2.5 million hit. Boucher is on the long-term injury reserve list and will count against the cap upon his return; he has rejoined the team after left foot surgery last month.....Don't think we need Boucher (unless we have another Defenseman injured) & we do have Guligoski (sp?) in minors now.....I say go for it; get rid of Satan & bring on a top flight forward.
