Illinois vs. PSU

Post by deliverance »

Anyone else watching this game? PSU is down 1 with 14:00 left in the game. It's been a sloppy game, but the most interesting part is Illinois had not shot a free throw until now. That's right. They didn't shoot a free throw in the first game these two played. They didn't shoot one until they were 25 minutes into this game. Amazing. It's not because of officiating either. Illinois just doesn't play physical basketball underneath.

PSU wins after Illinois missed the front end of a 1 and 1. This seals the deal. They are in the tournament. Looks like it would have been a great one to be at, Coach. I see them being a 10 or 11 seed depending on the Big 10 tourney. Maybe they'll get hooked up with Texas in the first round. I think that'd be a pretty good game.

Wow What a great game for the Lions. Kats hope they don't stub their toe at Iowa. If they take care of business they should be dancing!!

Unless PSU moves into the top 25, the Big Ten will probably have only 2 teams, MSU and Purdue, in the top 25 at the end of regular season play.

PSU has a chance to move into the Top 25 with a win over Iowa, but they probably won't since they haven't gotten a lot of respect all season. I bet they wish now that they wish they would have played a little bit tougher non-conference schedule. PSU is 6-9 against teams in the RPI Top 50. That's pretty good. I have to give credit where credit is due. If they would have played a few more tougher non-conference games and won, they would be looking at a 6 or 7 seed, instead they're destined to be a 10 or 11 seed with a very tough first round matchup. I am starting to wonder how good the Big 10 will do in the Tournament. I am not sold on any of their teams making the Elite 8. Michigan State has the best chance, but they have been very inconsistent. I love Izzo as a coach, but this could be a very tough year for the Big 10. I guess that's why they play the games.

If PSU beats Iowa and Mich State beats Purdue...PSU is the 2 seed in the B10 tourney.

I was at the game tonight...They led for .3 seconds of the game...the right .3 to lead!

What a game! This will also prove that PSU is not a team that will lay down and die in the tourney. This is the 3rd home big ten game that they were down double digits in the second half and still pulled out a W (Northwestern, Iowa, Illinois). They can really make a case for a seed that is respectable (7, 8, 9) if they can beat Iowa and win a few in the tourney they can be looking at 24+ wins.

After Iowa knocked Penn State out of the race for the national championship in football this past season, wouldn't it be something, if today, Iowa's win over Penn State in B-ball knocks the Nits out of the Big Dance.

I'll tell you what happened. PSU played 50 minutes of basketball and their bench only scored 8 points. PLUS, starter David Jackson had NO points in 25 minutes of play. When you consistantly depend on the same 3 guys to score all your points every game, that's trouble.
