Middletown senior Bill Edwards signed a letter of intent Wednesday with Penn State University.

The 6-foot-6 wing averaged 17.4 points and 9.0 rebounds this past season for Middies on his way to being named the Ohio Senior Player of the Year.

The three-star recruit had narrowed his list down to three schools and picked the Nittany Lions over both Miami (Ohio) and Central Florida.

"Hopefully he'll make a decision and feel good about it," head coach Bob Ronai told Rivals.com on Tuesday. For whatever reason, he keeps going back and forth, which is typical for a young kid."

Edwards also had offers from Dayton and Massachusetts as well as interest from several others.

He finished his distinguished career at Middletown in some impressive company. He reached the 1000-point club as a senior and leaves as the school's seventh all-time leading scorer, racking up 1,129 points. Legendary Jerry Lucas tops the Middies' list.

The program also got better in each season Edwards was a part of the program going from 7-15 his freshman year to 13-9 as a sophomore, 15-8 as a junior and 19-3 this season. Those 19 wins were the most by the Middies since 1983.

The team was upset by St. Xavier in their second post-season game, ending Edwards' career on a sour note.

By taking the kid as their 4th commitment this year (2009), Penn State now only has ONE opening left for a scholarship in 2010. This does not include Buie, who signed earlier for 2010. Maybe they should have passed on this kid and kept another for 2010. After all, how good is he. Why did he sign so late? Obviously not alot of schools were pursuing him.

Remember, for example, a year or two ago when you warned about PSU taking too many wide
receivers in their classes?

How did that warning work out?

Too bad Chris Bell had to get kicked off the team. That decreased the # of WR's at PSU for starters. By the way, what did he do again? I forget.

Of all things????? Just because YOU want to talk about ALL THINGS doesn't mean the conversation has to go that way. This topic is PSU men's basketball recruiting and it's a real sad affair. I wouldn't brag about PSU getting a kid in the month of May, after EVERYBODY else passed on him. The kid played 4 years for his high school team and only scored a little over 1100 points. That's worth a college scholarship, right? And again, this brilliant move leaves only ONE scholarship remaining for 2010. Of course, there's always the chance that someone will LEAVE the program. DeChellis has had that happen before, right?
