not to discredit Coach Dixon but.....

It feels reading through articles and watching TV all the credit is going to Coach Dixon for the success of this team, but Pitt has some pretty good players too. A coach is usually is good if he has good players and I think this Pitt team really has solid talent and this isn't a one man show. All love to Coach Dixon he is doing an excellent job and really has improved this program. He is a great coach but.....Pitt has some pretty dang good players too, its not like hes running out there with a bunch of scrubs. Just because Rivals says someone isn't a top 15 recruit doesn't mean they aren't good. DeJuan Blair wasn't in the top 50 of recruiting but last year he was arguably the best player in College Basketball. And Dante Taylor was a top 20 recruit and he has been a project for Coach Dixon....

Pitt's group this year is inexperienced but not any less talented then the previous teams we have had.

Ashton Gibbs reminds me of Ramon, only hes a better scorer all around.
Nasir Robinson reminds me of a young Jaron Brown but with another year of playing can certainly be on Brown's level.
Gary McGhee is right on pace with Aaron Gray. In fact I like him more because he actually throws it down rather then watching a 7 footer in Gray miss layups....nothing bothered me more.
Brad Wannamaker is a much more talented and athletic version of Antonio Graves. But both are very prone to their stupid mistakes.
Jermaine Dixon is a lefty lock down defender that is comparable to Julius Page.

We just didn't have the names or star power to start the year but the core of players Pitt has,is still very reminiscent of prior Pitt teams.

Theres a long season ahead but, Pitt has certainly put themselves in position to make a lot of noise.

Lets go back to November 24 in the Second Half against Texas.....Pitt has the lead.....throw in Jermaine Dixon and Gilbert Brown....Does Pitt still lose that game? I'm Saying if we had those two...Kentucky would be #1 in the country not Texas....but thats just me.

Crimson, I think you made the case that Dixon is doing a great job. Certainly to succeed in the BE you must have very good players, but just how good were the guys you compared the current crop of players to? Gray made it to the NBA and basically plays mop up minutes in Chicago and he was the best of the group you mentioned. I also don't think McGee is as good as Gray. Let's not forget that Gray had a tremendous junior year. Were Graves and Ramon even all BE players? They were very good players and played their roles well, but they were not stars. Robinson might be a Brown someday, but certainly not yet. I hardly see Dixon on the same level as Julius Page. There are certainly similarities, but I think Page was much better than Dixon. With that said, I wouldn't say any of the guys mentioned were great college players. They were all good players on good teams, but I doubt anyone outside of Pittsburgh remembers who they are now.

Despite their big wins Pitt is still young and inexperienced and there are no easy games on the BE schedule, so they will still have their share of setbacks before the season is over. However, Jamie Dixon has this team playing well and I don't think there is any team out there that would look forward to them on their schedule.

You kiddin' me? I'm not so sure you actually watched that game. You could have put Blair and Young out there and still not beat Texas in the second half of that game. Texas is by far deeper this year than Pitt. In case you haven't noticed, Texas outscores everyone by that type of margin in the second half and have at least 4-5 guys on their team that will make an impact on the NBA when it's all said and done. Pitt lost to a 7-8 Indiana team. Enough said.

Pitt has Brown and Dixon I think they probably win. With Blair......hahah good luck Texas. Blair makes Pittman look like little chubby kid.

once a runner, NBA minutes mean absolutely nothing. Fields was arguably the best PG in the land and doesn't even play in the NBA. Hard to compare College Basketball with NBA, but my point wasn't comparing Pitt's overall talent. Actually you made my point stronger...Pitt doesnt need the best NBA talented players, they need the players that fit the system. And those players i mentioned are very similar to past Pitt players.....and what has Pitt done over the past 9 years? Well have the best record in the best conference in the land.

Well I would hope to God Texas is more deeper then Pitt, We lost 4 starters? And still with our two most experienced players gone we still managed to be beating Texas in the 2nd half Pretty impressive.....take James and Pittman away from Texas....theyre lost.

Texas' starting lineup this year should be Kevin Durant, Damion James, D.J. Augustin, Dexter Pittman, and Avery Bradley. I'm sorry, but Pitt's not had that type of talent in the history of their program. Those guys all could be playing together right now. Quit crying about losing players. You lost to Indiana. Just be quiet.

I'm not crying about losing players. I'm crying more about having 2 of our best players hurt. And then all I'm saying its pretty impressive we lost 4 players(off a team thats better then any team Texas has had this decade, mind you.) and still managed to be beating you guys in the 2nd half. I'm saying it would be a different story if we had our 2 most experienced players when we played you. Obviously the team with Dixon and Brown is a top 15 team...without them not so much. Congrats to you and the Hoosiers for beating us short handed.

Are you just in a bad mood about that loss to Alabama still?

In 2003, Texas made the Final Four, so they had a team that was better than that team of yours last year. Texas lost to Syracuse, which is the team that won it all that year. You lost to Villanova last year, which got pounded in the next round. Also, Texas had two teams that made the Elite Eight after that 2003 team. Nice attempt, though. Shows how much you actually know. I'm not mad about anything. I just hate when people try to make arguments that are ridiculous. You obviously know very little about College Basketball, so I'm not wasting anymore time on this with you.

78-62. Scoreboard.
