NitWits on Verge of 1st Commit?

TE from DE named Kyle Carter. He has offers from Bucknell and Delaware.

Do you hear the crickets chirping?

Watched his film. He looks very, very solid as a receiver, but theres no film on him as a blocker on Rivals. Very good at going to get the ball at the highest spot, confident in coverage, and does not shy from making catches in that coverage.

Sometimes, schools dont want to be the 1st BCS school to offer a kid, if he's not a "shoe in" for a scholly. PSU has offered about 6 TEs so far, and are out of the running for at least 2 already. I thought Carter was very impressive as a receiver. But the offer list is a little worrisome, but I did hear that Rutgers was very close to offering. I would imagine that he is one of those kids that is not a "Plan A" guy and is more of a Plan B or C. In all honesty, if we can get a kid that big and that fast that can stretch the field, and he's a 3rd or 4th option and we can snag him, we need to snag him.

We are heavy, heavy leaders right now and a commit could come any day. I am usually pretty critical of the recruiting, and this year has already been a huge test of everyone's nerves and patience, but I like Carter a lot.

There is of course the situation now w/ NJ TE Jack Tabb, who has been getting a lot of attention of late. We have not offered in written form, and some of us in the Den are getting very irritated by how the staff is approaching this recruiting session. Some believe we need 2 TEs in this class. I dont know. All I know is that we offered a TE from out here (CA) at Oaks Christian and there is literally no chance in Hell that that kid even visits let alone commits. Who knows.

I always take ealy verbals with a grain of salt, because it seems like they decommit alot anyway. That being said that being said Penn State has always seemed to get a lot of early commits. This makes me wonder if Paterno has let it be known that he will only be around this coming year or that recruits just realize this and are afraid to commit with such uncertainty.

Not sure, Kirk. One thing is for certain though... They have changed recruiting strategies for this session under the excuse of "limited scholarships". Why that makes a difference when you only target 3 kids when you need 2 at his position to begin with, I have no idea. I get more and more frustrated with hos they recruit, and it really seems like everyone else is getting better every year at it and PSU is not even staying the same, they are REGRESSING at it.

Yes, they had a great class in 2010. But they also crapped the bed w/ Easley and Coxson, and the Coxson retardation looks even worse since Norwood is headed to Baylor already. Aye carumba.

They chase ghosts more and more every year. They went after Koyack, showed him they were no longer interested in TEs, and then offered 4 TEs when Koyack committed to ND. I mean... make sense of that.

Now they supposedly want 2 TEs. How do you go from 0 to 2 in less than a month? Did they not take the depth chart into consideration before offering these kids? Why do we need 2 TEs?

Nothing really surprises me with Penn State. I mean it really shouldn't surprise anyone. Social Networking, Emailing, and the internet is the main source of communication these days and our head coach is still trying to use his rotary phone. I think Penn State is behind the times when it comes to a lot of things like this which is why I'd love to see them go outside for a new coach with fresh ideas and not the ideas instilled upon them by joepa. It has actuall been a miracle that they have gotten the recruiting classes they have over the years with limited visits and communication with the head coach.

I think Joe is there through 2011. He's not going to retire after a 8-4 season.

I actually got to watch this kid's team play live back in november and can't remember anyone on that team that looked like they were D1 talent. Now, I'm not a professional recruiter or anything so maybe I just overlook what a recruiter is seeing as "potential." But as I recall his team didn't even get the ball across midfield until late in the 4th quarter, so maybe my analysis is clouded by a good player who just happened to be on a team that is terrible; or that they were playing the team that had the best defense in Delaware.

I'm betting they liked him somewhat and he conveyed that he wants to work hard, therefore Joe signed off on it.

All we can do is hope he works hard.
