Countdown #3
Posted: June 30th, 2010, 3:40 pm
oh the long awaited arrival of the 3rd installment of my countdown. Just been busy of late between coaching baseball and vacations and other things, I just found the time now. And I know how much everyone on here enjoys these
sooo here we go.
I give the nod to the 2008 edition of the Bishop McCort football team.
Accomplishments-12-1 record. 9-0 LHAC record LHAC and D6 A Champs.
Key games
Game 2-At BG- Bishop Guilfoyle gave McCort all they could handle, but thanks to a 200 yard output by Josh Seidel and Eric Lowry posting 3 TD's in 3 different ways the Crimson Crushers survived 39-35.
Game 5- At Richland-McCort and Richland battled to another classic game for the 2nd consecutive year, McCort roared out to a 21-0 lead(all scored by Lowry) to have come back Richland light up the scoreboard, Lowry scored the winning TD(his 4th) and Seidel ended Richland's chance with an acrobatic Int for the W. 38-34
Game 9-At Central Cambria-CC held the lead through most of the 2nd half, until Lowry forced his way into the End Zone late in the 4th to give McCort the Conference Title. 14-13
Game 11-Bellwood-Antis- In a battle of the best best teams in the district in the semi finals, it was an absolute thriller. Bellwood had the game in their hands for a good portion of the game, Schrey hooked up with Domonkos for a 37 yard score in the 4th for McCort to take the lead, and the Crushers' D held out Bellwood. 24-20
Game 13-Steelton Highspire- McCort held the eventual State Champs to 6 points through 3 quarters, but could only muster 3 themselves. Everything blew up late in the 4th quarter to give Steel High a 27-9 victory
I gave this team the nod over the 2009 State Runner up for several reasons
The Backfield trio of Lowry Seidel and Wadley was a force. All 3 brought something to the table and it was the reason why the Run friendly offense was introduced.
Although the run oriented offense was in place, The 2009 team had more of a passing threat. Schrey threw for over 1,000 yards to this year's maybe 450 yards. It at least gave that team the option to throw.
And the Secondary was a bit stronger with Reynolds as opposed to Leech.
And for the most part the teams were rather similar on the lines.
'08 ran into a team in Steel High that was the State Champs and beat Clairton pretty good in the Title Game, Give '08 Millersburg in the first round, probably get the same type of results.
This team wasn't ranked higher because.....the passing threat wasn't too great. The Defense would allow too many points at times forcing this team into a lot of shootouts and high scoring games, also in comparison to the teams ahead of this one, they lack overall size.
Top 5 Players.
1. Eric Lowry 1119 yards Rushing 17 TD's. 29 catches 498 yards 5 Td's. ^8 Tackles 3 Sacks 4 Int's. 25 Total TD's
2.Isa Wadley 837 yards Rushing 11 TD's
3. Josh Seidel 519 yards rushing 7 TD's. 9 catches 50 yards 1 TD. 59 Tackles 1 Sack 3 Int's
4. Chaz Merriman 98 Tackles 1 Int
5. Jason Reynolds 83 Tackles 3 Int's 1 TD.
