At tonight's athletic comittee meeting it was revealed that the Laurel Highlands would love to have Ligonier in their conference. That would be contingent on Chestnut Ridge goining also. The Heritage has invited West Shamokin and our AD made it sound as though they would join.

I heard the west shamokin rumor to. What does the hertiage do if Ligonier leaves? I would still invite west shamokin. That would be 9 teams and then work out an agreement with the west pac to play their odd team out every week. Don't some of the teams play chestnut ridge? So they will be looking for games also.

I heard that Ligonier is going to stay in the Heritage and West Shamokin is going to join the Heritage. Ridge has sent a letter to the LHAC about possible membership.

I hope the West Shamokin addition happens for the Heritage. I think this would be best for Ligonier Valley and the Heritage on the assumption this is for all sports by West Shamokin. Does West Shamokin join district 9 (again) or 6? From listening to the Ligonier Valley School District Athletic Committee meeting and other things I have heard on the street I feel this is what administration (and coaches) want. I know there are members of the Ligonier political action group that helped campaign for school board members that want a (Ligonier) move to the WPIAL. The Heritage might also be able to go to 12 schools for basketball and other sports if Elderton (West Shamokin’s natural rival) also gets the ok from the Armstrong school board and Harmony if they leave the Mo Valley League. This would make scheduling baseball and softball easier for Harmony. The only sport that this would not be better for Elderton would be boys volleyball which the Heritage doesn’t have league play. Elderton is actually single A that opts to play AA to cut down travel in the WPIAL and would need to move to District 9 or 6 also. A two section league for basketball and other sports would cut the travel for many schools. This would be best for the Jr. High Level, but I'm sure that is on the back burner, getting the tenth school is first priority.

Does any one know the co-op in the Armstrong School District. I know there are some different ones but don't what they all are? Who does Elderton co-op with for football

I am pretty sure Elderton (PIAA enrollment 91) coops with West Shamokin (218) for football. If so, and if that continues, West Shamokin would be, by far, the largest football school in the Heritage Conference. At 309, they are only 2 away from AAA.
West Shamokin 309
Ligonier Valley 231 (I think it was 155 Ligonier + 76 Laurel Valley)
United 179
Marion Center 177
Blairsville 149
Purchase Line 148
Northern Cambria 135
Homer Center 119
Penns Manor 111
Saltsburg 100

Rumor was that Ligonier Valley was going to change their name to the Twins Valley Titans. That would have been badass in my opinion.

That was my first thought also Red & Black but when I hinted of such a co-op this past Sunday with some one who is much more knowledge than me and they said no. Of course this is all confusing since the restart of Elderton. The Heritage doesn't have much choice than to let someone in that is bigger than most if not all schools but those numbers would concerns me more that the "new" Ligonier Valley numbers if I was an Indiana County member of the conference.

Ligonier was AA before. They have to have more than 155 boys.

Yes Ligonier Valley was AA for the 2008-09 seasons but would have droped to A for the 2010-11 seasons. Red & Black gave the numbers for 2010-11 for each Ligonier/Laurel Valley as were turned into the PIAA before consolidation was final. I'm wondering if West Shamokin's numbers might be lower in reality since some students from the 2009-10 school year would have returned to Elderton. Don't know, just wondering.
