ICC WEEK 7

28-8 overall and 3-3 last week

Claysburg @ Moshannon Valley
The Bulldogs played well last week at home against a West Branch team I picked to beat them. Moshannon Valley got run over by Bellwood. With both teams standing at 2-4, I think the best player on the field will determine a lot in terms of who wins this game. Who will be the best player on the field? Derek Southern of Mo Valley. The winner can still mathematically get to a record over .500.

Claysburg 13

Juniata Valley @ West Branch
The Hornets got a huge win last week against Glendale and now they look to fine tune their game in preparation for a week 8 showdown at Bellwood. West Branch appeared to make strides by beating Everett and then they went to Claysburg and lost this past weekend. They have a couple of skill guys who are decent, but not enough to match up with the Green Hornets here. My only question is this: Will JV play sloppy because they are looking ahead to next week?

Everett @ Mount Union
Kai House is back for the Trojans. I saw that in the paper this past week and figured with him back they would have no problem at Williamsburg, but I was wrong on that one. The Trojans are struggling to put points on the board. They have put up 13 or less in five of their six games. Everett has really struggled as well. Mt. Union ends with NBC, Bellwood, and Penns Valley. I think this might be their last shot at a win. Everett, hasn't had a win yet. They have 3 games that are winnable to end the year (MU, Williamsburg, CK). Can either offense get anything going in this game?

Mount Union 14
Everett 13

Tussey Mountain @ Williamsburg
Tussey Mountain hosted NBC last week and the Panthers really put it to them. Williamsburg pulled out an improbable come from behind win against Mt Union on a 65+ yard touchdown pass with under a minute to go (and then got the 2 point conversion to win). Tussey Mountain needs to forget what happened last week and just move forward. I think with Coy, Foore, and Shuke that Tussey will have the best three players on the field so I'll pick them. Trent Lee had a great week last week though and put up some big numbers on Mount Union.

Williamsburg 14

Bellwood @ Glendale
This was going to be my game of the week, but Glendale didn't get by Juniata Valley last week and I'm losing faith in them. Bellwood has just put the beat down on the last few teams they have played. So much for people thinking this Bellwood team was ok, but not nearly as good as some of their past teams. I think these guys are out to prove a point and it is being heard. Although this game doesn't carry the weight that it could have, there will be a packed house in Glendale. I could see this being their biggest home game in the last 10+ years. Does Tyler Jenny have some magic up his sleeve? Looking at their schedule this is senior night and the last home game for the Vikings. I this could give Glendale the magic potion that they are looking for. Will all the stars align for one night and let it happen? Nope. Bellwood isn't into this whole fairy tale. Cinderella doesn't find her slipper.

Glendale 20

Game of the Week: Southern Huntingdon @ Northern Bedford
The winner of this game will be the winner of the ICC South. Next week, Bellwood and Juniata Valley will determine the North. Southern has really battled the odds to be at 4-2. This is their 7th straight game on the road. They aren't spectacular but they have beaten the teams that they are better than. Their two losses weren't very close as they were upended by Juniata Valley and Bellwood. So how good are these guys? The Rockets run the option offense and are led by their quarterback Daniel Goshorn. He hasn't been a great passer, but with his running ability he has put up over 800 yards of total offense. Northern Bedford shocked me when they went down to Tussey Mountain last week and really put it to the Titans. Albright put up a huge performance in going for over 225 yards and the defense didn't allow Coy to break lose on them like he has against everyone else. Is this game better than the Bellwood vs. Glendale game? No, but it is for a divisional championship.

Long time reader, first time poster. I figured I'd pitch in my two cents on this week's action.

Claysburg-Kimmel @ Moshannon Valley
Injuries have depleted Mo Valley, as several underclassmen have found their way into the starting lineup on both sides of the ball. QB Joel Martin is questionable, as is Derek Southern -- who missed most of last week's game with B-A with a separated shoulder. C-K's offense had no problems moving against West Branch, who might have a slightly better D than MV. Should Southern play, I agree, he's the best player on the field. If not, it could be a pretty boring game. I'll say he toughs it out.

Mo Valley 32
C-K 26

Juniata Valley @ West Branch
The Hornets are firing on all cylinders and I don't expect much of a letdown this week. Like I said above, WB's defense is comparable to MV's, which JV put 36 or 39 on. I can easily see Morrison, Carper and Weicenburg having big games in this one. The Warriors are playing better, even if their record doesn't indicate it, but this one won't be close.

Juniata Valley 46
West Branch 6

Everett @ Mount Union
This game could be a close replica to last week's loss for the Trojans, but I'm not entirely sure they'll end up on the wrong side of the scoreboard this time around. House coming back certainly helps Mount Union, and I'd expect him to have his wind back after last week's game. The transitive property says MU beat WB, WB beat Everett, so MU should beat Everett. For some reason, I like the Warriors on the road here.

Everett 20
Mount Union 12

Tussey Mountain @ Williamsburg
I was onhand to witness the TM/MV shootout, where the teams combined to score 67 points in the first half. The Titan offense can put up some points, but their defense is suspect. With the Blue Pirate offense, though, TM should be in pretty good shape. I think Coy and Co. roll in this one.

Tussey Mtn. 34
Williamsburg 8

Bellwood-Antis @ Glendale
I'm not sure this is the biggest game at Glendale in the last 10+ years, but it is one of the most intriguing.
I'm not sure the Blue Devil secondary has seen anything remotely close to the spread offense of Jenny and his receiving corps. It'll be hard to similate the offense in one week and B-A will have some trouble defending it, but I think they're head and shoulders above the rest of single A. They're too strong and too disciplined to slip up here. The Vikes will play well, as the last two meetings have proven, but the Devils will emerge victorious once more. Anyone hear word on how the FB Beech is doing? IIRC, he's one of their best defenders and he was out of the game early last week. No matter, though.

Glendale 13

Southern Huntingdon @ Northern Bedford
NBC has been rolling all season long, outside of the first quarter of its season opener, and this week will definitely follow suit. An undefeated regular season and Top 2 seed in the D-5 playoffs are within reach. No way NBC trips up this week. Goshorn may get some yards, but the NB defense is too strong to let him do it all game long.

Well this is about the only week that NBC has a chance to lose. They win this game 9-0 for sure.

NBC made me a believer with their smashing of TM and it continues here against SHC

I thought Tussey lost everyone from last year and they weren't even that good. Was Tussey suppose to be good with not that many starters back?

I just thought tussey would make it closer. NBC was the better team. they played like the better team

They took care of their business just like good teams are suppose to

I remind you Franco was 7/9 for 224 and 3tds in the 1st half in wk 1....B-A has a few injuries too
this is a trap game 4 sure, I think B-A wins a tight one, possibly a shootout, but if the Vikes pull it out I wouldn't be shocked.

Glendale vs. Bellwood-Antis

Glendale has had this game marked on their calendar for a long time. The Vikings have played Bellwood tough the last couple of years, and it is senior night in Flinton. However, this is BELLWOOD-ANTIS we are talking about. Glendale and their so called high powered passing attack faltered against NBC and Juniata Valley. Tyler Jenny is an experienced QB, but in Glendale's two biggest games this season, he has thrown quite a few interceptions. It is one thing to throw for 200+ yards against Williamsburg and Everett, but B-A is a totally different animal. I think B-A's pressure up front will alter the outcome in this one.Glendale is big, but they don't move real well. B-A is strong and quick. The game is won in the trenches, not the airwaves...
