I was reading the Bedford gazette and it was brought to my attention in the letter to the editor section about a basketball game at Bedford and Tussey and some player from Bedford threw an elbow to the face of another player which caused him to get 30 stitches and a plastic surgery. Did anyone see this happen?

Why would legal action be taken against the school?

I was told that the family was getting a laywer and turning in the film to the PIAA.

If you could prove that the elbow was thrown INTENTIONALLY, then there could be a case against the player who threw the elbow. BUT, if it was thrown while coming down with a rebound, or just plain fighting for the ball, it would be considered part of the game, sort of an act of God thing. It's like if someone was hurt getting INTENTIONALLY fouled while making a lay-up, that's different than being just fouled. I'm sure the school cannot be sued, UNLESS the coach told the "fouler" to take out the kid. Not socially, but physically.

My thing is when these schools like Tussey,Ridge,Everett,NBC travel over to the other side of the mountain you will see rough played basketball. I mean i feel bad for the kid who got hurt because noone wants to see that, but ive seen a lot more crazy things.

First off it was intentional. They were not fighting for a loose ball or coming down with a rebound. Shuke (6'5") set a screen and Hess (5'9" at best) hit him with an elbow in the mouth. He almost had to jump to get his elbow that high.

Secondly, The family is not getting a lawyer. The film is not being turned into the PIAA by Tussey.

sportsfever, If you think the schools on the other side of the mountain play rougher than Tussey, I suggest you get to a Tussey game. They are as physical as anyone. That's why they are one of the few D5 teams that ever advance in the state playoffs. If you have seen a lot more crazy things than that I'd like to know what they were. I've been going to high school basketball games for 40 years and go to over 100 games a year and that shot was as flagerant as I've ever seen.

I will not argue that Tussey is a physical team or the most physical in D5. Year in and year out Tussey has the best team..What im saying is this kinda things happen....Maybe the officals should be the ones getting in trouble??Sending the film to PIAA is a smart move because this needs to be seen. I just dont think the article in the paper solves anything.

Now it's the officials' fault? If it was a flagrant elbow it was the elbowers fault, no one else's.
