Berlin (1-0) hosts Conemaugh Valley (0-1)
Last week Berlin had some problems with Ferndale and trailed at half time but was able to bring it together to score 25 points in the second half and keep the Jackets off the board. Glotfelty and Craig looked good and will share the burden (of replacing Saylor). Berlin fans had to be worried at halftime.
In every article I read about CV the coach preached "fundamentals." Well the Blue Jay tackling stunk! According to Lombardi, "Football is blocking and tackling." The Jays suffered in both realms. I imagine the massive heat index had something to do with these teams not playing up to par. I was surprised that North Star didn't have a passing touchdown. I'm glad to see CV kept NS under 40 and they at least scored some points this year.

Windber (1-0) at Blacklick Valley (0-1)
I previously stated that I was worried how Windber would come out under a new coach...boy did they squash that! I understand they played Rockwood but the stats of the game were impressive. They racked up over 375 yards on the ground and it looks to be business as usual for the Ramblers.Blacklick was bad against the run. That sounds like a bad equation.

Portage (1-0) at Meyersdale (0-1)
I was VERY surprised that Portage had under 200 yards of total offense. I had thought that Meyersdale would have given CT a better fight. Portage played good D and caught some breaks. Special teams helped the Mustangs. This game has the opportunity to be a close one if Meyersdale plays the kind of football they are capable of. Meyersdale might still have the air out of their lungs due to some key injuries but they better show up to play this week.

Conemaugh Township (1-0) at Rockwood (0-1)
Township looked good. They had over 450 total yards of offense roughly split evenly amongst running and passing. Shroyer is the real deal. They only question in this game is can CT put up as much as Windber did?

Shade (0-1) hosts Ferndale (0-1)
Shade was able to keep it close with the Mustangs but allowed some mental mistakes to take them out of the game. Ferndale could with stand the "heat" and blew a halftime lead to Berlin. This is a big game for Shade. They need to come out and put it to the Jackets. If they can do that they might be able to build some momentum for the up coming weeks (CV, NS, and Berlin). They could feasibly win two of those games.
Again, they need to win big!
SHADE - 42
FERNDALE - 14

North Star plays Chesnut Ridge this week. The Cougars picked up right where they left off from last year. This could possibly the 2nd biggest test they face this season (Windber being the 1st). I don't know much about this years Ridge squad. I hope the Cougars continue to win big. As of date, the WESTPAC title game could be played in week 8- North Star vs Windber

I agree with you on shade holding portage down in yards and they had two bad calls that changed the outcome along with the coaches kicking to kruezenburger when he returned the punt to the 10 yard line to set up td #1 and the opening kickoff return by #18 again (82 yards) td #2 to start the 2nd half. Shade moved the ball and stopped portage alot. I think shades size and experience and being at home will take it to ferndale. They were hitting bryja alot on the passes and eisenhuth and ferndales line isn't anywhere as good as portages team and portage was at home or the outcome could have been different. I think shade will rebound at home and show ferndale they are no fluke. Also berlin had some bad calls against them or it would have been alot worse on the scoreboard.

little early in week 1 to crown that a title game to windber and n.s. lot of games to be played including c.t. windber game. N.S. would have done more had it been a friday night game. those saturday games are killers to teams that arent used to playing them. berlin game is another example of it. both those teams should do much better friday nights. also expect windber to have a little more trouble being a sat game against b.v.

agreed. shade should be looking to make a statement at home this week, and as i stated before berlin will show its real team playing at night this week instead of a day game. went to the n.s game and those kids were coming in and out getting ice rags to cool themselves on both sides. i think n.s. will be getting some payback on ridge this week. look for max and tony to play both sides if the game gets close or ridge takes a lead.

ridge doesn't have a chance against n.s. The cougars will start max at olb to stop the option and key on hengst this week. He doesn't normally start on defense, but he will shut down hengst this week and play olb if n.s. coaches are smart. N.stars line will drive ridges off the ball and pass all over them. Ridge struggled at richland in the 7 on 7's against shade 12-12 tie, and n.s has the best qb and wr in the west pac hands down. C.t. has a great coach who gets everything out of his players year in and out and make them be stars. Zambos team better not be taken for granted because they will take it to you. Also windber will kill blacklick this week. B.v. lost their whole line and windber has their whole line back. That will be the difference and b.v. doesn't have manda. All they have is young #12 sheesley and they wasted him at qb this year where he is easy to shut down. Windber 45 b.v. 0. N.s. 48- ridge 18. Shade 30- ferndale 12.

Shade has their whole team back from last year and they won at ferndale last year with these same kids1 Ferndale lost horvath, matt dorchak,gartrell,toth,kuback,murphy,urban,kozak,hrabosky,naylor, and others that were good football players. Basically the whole line and shade ran all over them last year with your big line you had. Shade also fumbled the ball 5 times and still won at the hive! Too much talent and size for shade this year with tons of experience to get knocked off by ferndale! Shade had a chance to beat portage at portage last week if not for some mental mistakes which happen when you play a powerhouse like portage. Edwards and medva will both have 100 yards rushing at home against ferndale. Glessner might even reach 100 also, like he and medva did last year at ferndale and now shade has a big bruiser in edwards who will run those small guys over like he did to portage.

SRV I think the surprise game of the week will be Windber and Blacklick Valley. BV fumbled two times deep in Blairsville territory (11 and 23 yard line) both turning into Bobcat scores. Playing in Nanty Glo at 1 o'clock in the afternoon is also not an easy task. Windber might be the favorite but not by 36.

And for your sake, and for the sake of all of those paying admission, I hope it's not a whitewash like I predicted. But I'm hoping on the Windber Wagon - Please forgive me.
