I would first like to start with this:

Dear North Star players,
This is the biggest game of your season(thus far) and you waste your time making numerous moronic posts on here that embarrass you and your school. This is a prime example why you are disappointing the hundreds of people who have supported you from day one. Please take a few lessons from the team you are playing this week in humility and respect. I am picking you to lose because your attitude is unacceptable. I can't imagine how the coaching staff will allow you to embarrass yourselves and your fans. You are smearing the wonderful tradition your brothers and teammates have set for you. "STOP IT!"

...now back to business..

Week 5
(Last Week 5-1, Overall 21-4)

Berlin 4-0 vs North Star 3-1
North Star is not ready for this game. The offense has yet to find a proper balance of Miller/Strasiser. The team has many weapons but these two have to be your work horses. The Cougar defense has some holes and lacks the speed to keep up with Berlin's fast break offense. If the Cougars can get something going offensively they might be able to make a game out of this contest. Berlin comes in with the one man show - Drew Glotfelty. He has carried the burden for the Mountaineers so far this season. He singled handedly took down the Mustangs. I expect Blake Miller to step up big this week and take some of the pressure off of the running game. Weather may play a part in this game ... I have many theories on how this game will turn out...I will pick the conservative one.

BERLIN- 27
NORTH STAR- 14

Windber 4-0 vs Ligonier Valley 4-0
LV has one heck of a running game. The Rams have three players with over an 8 yard rushing average (with more than 12 carries). They have yet to feel the pressure of a "big time game." They have made easy time out of the Heritage Conference thus far. Windber has been able to surprise teams with a balanced attack. They are not doing too shabby with roughly 400 yards of offense per game. If this game gets into a shoot out I think the Rams run away with it. BUT, if the Ramblers can get some turnovers and some 3 and outs they might be able to surprise the untested Rams. I hope the Ramblers can keep the beat down going on the Heritage Conference. It will be a challenge though.

LIGONIER VALLEY- 35
WINDBER- 21


Portage 3-1 vs Rockwood 1-3
Rockwood has sputtered since its Week 1 victory over United. The numbers and lack of experience is really hurting this team. I have heard that coaches are worried they might not be able to finish the season. I think that is a shame for those kids who have some talent. The Mustangs made easy work out of the Raiders last week and will have another week to rest the stable. Again, Gouse will have the game in hand by the half to get a good look and some of the freshman potential. The Mustangs will have some nice momentum built up as they approach a big game next week vs Blacklick.

PORTAGE- 50
ROCKWOOD- 22


Blacklick Valley 3-1 vs Conemaugh Township 2-2
Can the Indians make this a game? Blacklick has looked good thus far this season and CT has looked good in spurts. Normally the Indians would have the edge in this match up but not this year. I think Blacklick will be motivated after their first set back last week. The Indians are feeding off back to back wins. Can they make it three? This game comes down to - A) Can the Indians contain Sheesley? (Windber supplied teams with the blue print) and B) Can they get Cahill a steady amount of carries while mixing in Rosa with different looks? The Indians might shock some people here and that would make people forget about the 0-2 start. However, I will ride my dark horse for another week...

BLACKLICK VALLEY- 28
CONEMAUGH TOWSNHIP- 21


Shade 2-2 vs Conemaugh Valley 1-3
This is a very interesting match up... both teams have not lived up to the pre-season hype. Shade is starting to sneak under the radar and a win this week would put them in nice position to finish with possibly 5 wins. The running attack of the Panthers is something to be admired. Medva averages 200+ yards rushing a game. I think he will have a tough go facing a fast and hardnosed Blue Jay defense. I have been impressed by what I have heard and seen of the Jay D. The only thing hurting the Valley boys is the lack of offense. They were able to score 47 points on Ferndale but only 13 points in four other games. If the Jays can score at least 3 touchdowns they should be able to pull off the victory. But I am sure Shade has a pretty bitter taste in their mouths from last season. Since the game is on Friday Night I will go with the Panthers.

Meyersdale 0-4 vs Ferndale 0-4
I am sure the Meyersdale faithful will be showing up in nomads this week! The Red Raiders can taste the first victory of the season. Ferndale is hoping to get things firing. I was hoping the Jackets would make more of a game out of last week's contest but they couldn't. I think Meyersdale will play tough.

I remember a few years ago when bleachercoaches just started to gain popularity, we had strict instuctions by coach to not post anything AT ALL during the season, before and after we could but not during. One person did, it wasn't immature or dumb like these posts are, and coach found out and the whole team had to stay late that night. I enjoy the conversation on here, when it makes sense and is mature. Not the crap they are posting. I hope Berlin pounds them this friday night.

Fantastic post SRV. Judging by your record to this point, kinda hard to argue your picks this week but I'll do my best. In the weekly contest, I too picked Berlin to win. The closer it gets to game time though, I'm coming down with this feeling that North Star just might pull the upset. I'm taking N.S. to win on a point after attempt. N.S. 21 .. Berlin 20.

Earlier in the week, I had Ligonier by a td over Windber. I'm going to change that a bit...something like a 34 -12 score. I think the loss of our best lineman on both sides of the ball will hurt big time against their running game. Offensively, Windber will not move the ball quite as easily and the way we've been turning the ball over the game could be a route if they don't tighten things up. I hope I am so wrong on this one.

I'm tempted to call Township in a close one. I honestly wasn't that impressed with Blacklick and felt Windber was 5 td's better if it wasn't for the 4 or 5 turnovers and 150-200 yards in penalties. I'll go Township 27-20.

The rest I pretty much agree on. I'd also like to mention the Medva kid, With all the good backs in WestPac, I was somewhat surprised he leads the league in rushing yardage. If I were to be honest though, I'd take him over any other back that I've seen play thus far...that includes Sheesley. He's got quicks but more impressively can run people over. I haven't seen Glotfelty and Miller yet this season but as it stands now, I take Medva.

Having seen both North Star and Berlin play I wouldn't say North Star beating Berlin would be an upset.

My comment is based off of NS losing to Portage and Portage losing to Berlin. In some circles, that alone might help consider a NS win an upset. I am aware though, using common opponents as a basis for calling a game can be ignorant at times.

As normal good post SRV. I agree with most as usual. Last week I liked Windber over BL and this week I have to stick to my biasness and take the Indians on the road. Your formula is correct in that they need to shut down Sheesley. As for the rest of the picks the only other game that I think will be a good battle will be Berlin/NS. I still think it could go either way but, I will give the edge (a small one at that) to Berlin.
